Community Highlights: Meet Maria Mendoza of MCMT Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Mendoza.

Hi Maria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Caracheo, Cortazar, Guanajuato, Mexico. I relocated to the United States in 1999 with my family. We arrived in Little River, South Carolina. I attended Middle school and High school in South Carolina, then in 2005, I moved to Miami, Florida to start college. I received a BA in Fashion Design from Miami International University of Art & Design. Then in 2011, I relocated to New York City and worked for LVMH, in luxury retail management. After a successful career in retail, I decided to relocate back home to South Carolina in 2015. After 10 years of being away from home, I intuitively knew that I wanted to start a new career in the Real Estate industry since I had a strong sales, managerial background, and keen eye for design. After relocating to SC it was hard finding a job, especially coming from a city where the average salary was higher than the cost of living in the South. I started cleaning homes and helped my sister oversee her cleaning service while she had a baby. I was cleaning in the daytime and going to real estate school at night time. In 2017, I started practicing selling real estate while cleaning full time. In 2017 I sold 4 homes and last year I sold 50. I am currently in the top 100 agents for the Century 21 franchise in the State of South Carolina and a top producer in my area. Now, I am focused on continue building my personal agent real estate brand one client at a time. My goal is to open my own firm in the next 5 years. I love this industry and I finally found what I am good at and using all of my previous experience.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road but it has been worth it. The key thing is to keep going no matter what.

As you know, we’re big fans of MCMT Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The name of my company is MCMT Group, it is my full name, Maria Cecilia Mendoza Tinoco. In Mexico, we carry both of our parents’ last names. Mendoza is my Dad’s and my Moms is Tinoco. When we moved to America and I became a US Citizen, I changed my name and took out the Tinoco, simply because it was too long and normal documents do not have a space for a second last name. The name of my company is simple to honor both of my parents and leave a lasting legacy one day. My company is brokered by the Century 21 Coastal Lifestyles office in North Myrtle Beach, SC. As real estate agents, we are independent contractors but we need to be licensed under a brokerage. I specialized in selling residential real estate whether is new construction or previously owned properties. What makes me really proud of what I have been able to accomplish since I started my real estate career is that I build my book of business from scratch. I never purchased any leads nor did my company give me any. At the beginning, all of my leads were 100% through my own effort and now I am very blessed to receive referrals from my past clients and other agents. What I believe sets me apart is the level at which I care about every single one of my clients. I go above and beyond for all of them. I enjoy building relationships and learning about people. To me, that is highly fulfilling and priceless. The reason why I am so passionate about Real Estate is that it’s a great source of building generational wealth. To me is very important that I make a contribution to the world and my community by servicing the people and leaving this generation in a position to win for the generation after us.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think of myself as an eagle, as a scout. I don’t think of risk as risk. I think of risk as a must in order to grow. What I value most in my life is learning and growing. Making progress inspires me to keep going and moving. You cannot have growth without risk, so risk then becomes something that is part of you. What I will say is that risk now compare to risk then has certainly changed for me in the sense that now I spend more time assessing risk and making well and informed decisions vs before- just jumping and winging it.
