Meet Sarah Forester Davis

Sarah Forester Davis

Hi Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been a writer. I grew up a military brat, and I would write stories in notebooks to keep myself busy. The idea for my first book, Confession, came to me on my first visit to Flagler Beach, Florida, shortly after I married my husband. Each trip after, more and more of the story grew in my mind. It took me a decade to start writing it, but I couldn’t stop once I started. My main goal for this book was to get it into the hands of my family and friends. I self-published it as I didn’t know how successful it would be.

The Fandom for Confession and its main characters, seventeen-year-old Bodhi and Eva grew quickly. The small beach town of Flagler Beach fueled the fandom as many local spots are mentioned in the book, and readers love to follow in Bodhi and Eva’s footsteps. By the time I released the sequel, Breaking Down a Hurricane, Confession had been read in eleven different countries and had millions of pages read on Kindle Unlimited. The sequel also introduced some of Charleston into the storyline, which generated a new group of readers. I also wrote a standalone book the same year, Her Name is Hazel, which won Best Romance of 2022 by Feed My Reads. It has its fandom of book lovers, and now a much desired follow up in the works.

At this point, a filmmaker with decades of experience in the entertainment industry approached me. He wanted to write a script for the first Confession book as my writing inspired him, but also the story itself as it was relatable to his life. I’ve been extremely fortunate to participate in this entire process thus far. I’ve been able to offer my opinions on certain scenes and characters and contribute to the actual screenplay. It’s finished now, and it does the first Confession book justice. Fans will be satisfied. The filmmaker is about to go on tour to obtain financing for the film, and I hope to join him for the pitch of Confession as a big studio tentpole with all three Confession books and the fourth and final on the way.

The Third Confession book, The Antidote, came out in early 2023. Fans were ecstatic to find out it was not the final book, as I had mentioned while writing it. I couldn’t get it all finished. Part of this book also takes place in Charleston again, and my favorite restaurant, Saltwater Cowboys, gets a huge shoutout, as well as the beautiful Shem Creek. The fourth and final book will come out when the Confession movie begins.

Meanwhile, my latest standalone book, Dallas and Georgia, was released this summer. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my fans. They truly are why my books are getting into new hands and have done so well. I’m a self-published author. Indie authors are lucky to sell 100 copies of their books in their lifetime. I’m incredibly fortunate to have tens of thousands of books sold and to sell out at most of my book signings. Local indie bookstores have also started to sell my books, which has helped get them in the hands of readers who have yet to hear about them. My love of travel and the fact that I call so many places home has helped with my stories and find readers in these towns.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a self-published author, the main struggle is marketing. I have to do everything myself. I have to market my books on all social media platforms and contact local businesses to see if they’d like to do a book signing. I have to answer questions and respond to my fans because they are why my books get seen. Meanwhile, I’m also writing new books, and I’m a wife and a mom of four amazing kids. I wear a lot of hats, and sometimes, there’s not enough time in the day to get everything done. But I live for the chaos.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My books are all young adult/new adult romantic suspense books. Most readers know me because of my Confession series, but I’m equally proud of Her Name Hazel. This book deals with some tough topics and the response I’ve heard from readers who share a similar past as the main character has been overwhelmingly beautiful. I have a wonderful relationship with all my readers. I told myself from early on that if I was lucky enough to grow a fanbase, I would never pretend as if they weren’t the reason for my success. I’m constantly answering messages, responding to posts, and taking the time to talk with my readers at every book signing. I’ve been spotted at local restaurants and never turn away a reader who wants a picture or their book signed. They are the reason I do what I do. I also make an effort to namedrop local businesses in my books. For the Confession series, it’s Flager Beach, Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina. Her Name is Hazel; it’s Medina and Sharon Center, Ohio. And for Dallas and Georgia, you’ll find numerous spots in Bar Harbor, Maine. All my books can be found on Amazon, Kindle, and Kindle Unlimited. The Confession series and Her Name is Hazel are on all audio platforms, and signed books are available via my website.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
My husband and I have been married for fourteen years and have four kids. They are 12, 10, 8 and 6. We are always planning our next road trip or family adventure, and we live on the beach for most of the summer.
