Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Colon.
Hi Tiffany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My interest in decorated sugar cookies started slowly, then all at once. I have always had a creative muscle and enjoy using my hands to create. I was hooked on social media and YouTube videos showing beautifully flooded cookies and designs. I finally attempted my cookies a few months before my son’s monster-truck theme birthday party. I worked with many different recipes before getting a recipe down that was consistent, delicious, and didn’t spread. I dove into perfecting the royal icing until I had one with a soft bite that matched the cookies. After baking and decorating for his party, I was hooked. There was so much to learn and improve upon. Coincidentally, I was going through a very challenging period in life. I found that baking (often very late at night) was very calming for me. Following some incredible cookies on social media gave me so much drive to continue working at my craft. Some of my favorite accounts are Flour’d Baking Co. (@flourdbybethany on Instagram) and Linen & Gray (@linenandgray). I could stare at their cookies all day!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I get immense joy out of baking and get so much satisfaction when a set comes together and is complete, it was challenging. Balancing all the things that we are as women, mothers, wives, friends, daughters, and business owners (which includes marketing, social media, packaging, etc.), you get the idea, but it is no easy feat. It truly takes a village, and I am immensely grateful for mine.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in decorated sugar cookies and can produce any theme. The most “unique” request I’ve received so far was for a camel kicking a soccer ball and wearing a Santa hat. I use a 3D printer to print my cookie cutters, reducing the cost and time it takes to get unique cookie cutters from online stores. I can custom-create cookie cutters to match an image you might find online or in Canva. I have an edible printer (my favorite gadget), and I’ve partnered with many businesses in the Lowcountry to create logo cookies for their offices and special events. I enjoy hosting cookie classes for others who might have seen the viral TikToks and Reels on flooded cookies and want to learn hands-on. All supplies are provided, so the attendees bring themselves and a positive attitude! We’ve hosted several classes at Ophelia’s Wines & Bites in Moncks Corner. Guests love to decorate and sip a beverage and snack from their menu. Aside from cookies, I also create charcuterie boards – the size of a serving tray or as large as a kitchen island. The message I’ve received thus far from a client that I am most proud of was that after shopping around, they chose to go with my services because I was responsive, friendly, and easy to work with – they felt connected. My cookies are a labor of love, and I take the opportunity to be included in their special events as an absolute privilege.
We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Bad luck happened, and my bad luck was the timing of my new business venture during challenging life events. The silver lining was my gratitude and pride with every order that went out my door. Using my brain creatively, having clients that I put my creative spin on their projects and entrust me to fulfill their orders was vital in building my confidence again. I’ll always be grateful to them. There’s a lot of good luck, too! I live in a neighborhood that has supported my creative dreams, shared the word about my business, and even purchased tickets to my classes. Several people in my neighborhood have been repeat clients (the highest compliment). I had just finished a project for an upcoming baby shower, for which I had also done her “We’re Pregnant” cookies to surprise her husband. There are so many incredible chefs and bakers in my neighborhood, too. Instead of competing against one another, there have been so many opportunities to collaborate with these impressive women. Raising Rose Kitchen, LLC is always a favorite to work with. I hope you enjoyed learning about me and She Shed Cookies & Boards. I look forward to creating something delicious for the readers soon!
