Introducing South Carolina Paranormal Research and Investigations

Today we’d like to introduce you to South Carolina Paranormal Research and Investigations. Them and their team share their story with us below:

South Carolina Paranormal Research and Investigations (SCPRAI) began in August 26th, 2007 by Shelley Armstrong. SCPRAI is a non-profit 501(c)(3) group of paranormal investigators based in South Carolina who investigate and document reports of ghosts, hauntings, and paranormal activity. Our team is comprised of people from all over South Carolina. We are mature, serious-minded individuals with years of experience in the field of paranormal research.

Our mission is twofold: Collect verifiable scientifically based evidence of the survival of the human personality after death while helping people understand and cope with possible paranormal activity in their homes or businesses before and after an investigation. We do NOT charge for our investigation services.

SCPRAI is an official “TAPS Family” member. The only team in South Carolina verified by The Atlantic Paranormal Society.

As of March 2022, SCPRAI has 37 members between 4 regional teams: Upstate, Midlands, Beach, & Lowcountry.

There are 5 Board Members:

Angie Smith- Treasurer.

Darleen Timmerman- Case Manager/New Member Recruiter.

Paul Sanders- Event Coordinator/ Podcast Co-Host.

Shaun England- Website Admin/Social Media Manager/Tech Support.

Kelly Edwards- Team Trip Coordinator/Scribe/Tech Support.

SCPRAI has been featured in a documentary by a former client, a book by a former client, numerous news stations, and articles.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Paranormal investigating is often challenging… From not being taken seriously, clients abusing drugs, clients with mental health issues instead of paranormal issues, to potential clients who submit investigation requests are super fans based on watching paranormal TV shows. They believe the investigation will be like what they see on those shows. In reality, we spend many hours sitting in dark rooms and don’t capture any evidence. Not to say there isn’t anything there, but we can’t make a spirit do something on command. We have had some investigations where the client has invited a bunch of people for a party while we are trying to do our investigation research. Another challenge is raising money for new equipment is difficult, we depend on members paying monthly dues.
