Today we’d like to introduce you to Shenita Sanders.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was working as a substance use counselor, helping people process traumatic life events on a daily basis. I was beginning to struggle with my own feelings of anxiety and wanted to be proactive about my self-care. I’d heard something about a sound bath and decided to give it a try. I booked a session and walked away feeling as if I was floating on a cloud. I was instantly hooked and knew that I had to find out more about this amazing healing modality.
So later that same year, the pandemic occurred and life became more stressful. I always went back to the healing sounds I experienced in the sound healing session and felt some relief. As my curiosity grew with sound, vibrations, and frequency, I knew that this was my next calling. So, I retired from counseling in November 2020 and opened Future Focused Coaching and Wellness. My vision is to create a compassionate and loving space where people can come and feel seen, validated, empowered, and free. I enjoy working with clients 1-to-1. Holding sacred space for them to fully express their stories without fear or judgment.
More importantly, I am working diligently to build a beautiful Compassionate Community. This Compassionate Community will be made up of many different people that will serve to be of service to one another. We all have a story. All of us have a lesson to share that can help someone another person better navigate this life. It is by harnessing this beautiful energy that we all connect, share, and heal one another.
I am so excited about the growth that Future Focused Coaching and Wellness has experienced. The greatest compliment I receive as a Master Sound Therapist and Positive Psychology Coach is when my clients share with me, “I told someone about how amazing you are and they need to call you.” To me, that is high praise and I soak it all in. It is meaningful to me because I hold everyone in my heart. I want so much for everyone to experience the freedom and joy that I experience. Not to mention, that it just feels amazing knowing that what you are doing is making a real difference in the lives of those you serve.
I love love love that I took a leap of faith and followed my passion for Sound Therapy. I share with people all the time, “the sound healings allows people to rediscover the feelings of joy and peace, but combined with the coaching, they will create the magical formula to sustain those beautiful feelings.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been smooth, but it has highlighted a version of me that I did not know existed. The challenges and obstacles have called me to dig deeper, ask for help, be vulnerable, know my worth, and realize just how much courage lives within me. Keep in mind that I started a spiritual-based business during a pandemic. I left behind something steady, to walk into the unknown. All I have is a deep inner knowing that my special gifts and talents are needed for such a time as this.
As I think about it all, many of the lessons, I’ve soaked up along this journey so far, mirror many of the lessons that my coaching clients come to discover. We are far stronger than we give ourselves credit for, and life is so much sweeter when we follow and live out the joys of our hearts. Knowing that I am in divine alignment with my life’s purpose, helps me to overcome any stumbling block.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started my professional career as a mental health and substance use counselor in Adult Psychiatry. I provided mental health and substance use counseling to persons that suffer from chronic psychiatric disorders. I also worked with youth at risk as a Behavioral Health Specialist. So, I have been honored to work with all age groups from 5 to 90 years of age. Helping individuals, couples, and families mend and maintain meaningful relationships.
Throughout my years working as a coach, I utilized many Positive Psychology tools to help clients establish a great foundation for healing and growth. As I began to research Positive Psychology and gained certification, I discovered many of the interventions that worked with persons struggling with chronic psychiatric disorders, also worked with someone who does not. For example, Creating space, engaging listening skills, highlighting the client’s strengths and positive attributes, and showing compassion is a recipe for success.
I’m proud that I have overcome tremendous personal pain and trauma. I learned to find my value and worth as a person and why it is essential to my success as a coach, friend, wife, and community member. As I found my healing, I knew my life’s calling is to reach back and help others to do the same.
When I was younger, music was always my constant companion. Music helped me to escape the harsh realities of life. So when I later found sound healing, it was a perfect match for my life’s work. I studied Sound Therapy and eventually obtained my certification as a master sound therapist, master teacher of sound therapy, and yoga Nidra. This practice has enhanced taken my skill level as a coach to a more profound level. The frequencies, vibrations, and healing tones help me to better connect to my highest self and show up for my clients in a more powerful and sacred way.
One of my many skills is connecting with people in a meaningful way that helps to put them at ease. This is very important when working with a coach. As a coach and sound therapist, I am intentional about curating a sacred and safe environment for clients to flourish. I consider myself a compassionate guide that helps clients to rediscover themselves in fresh, new, and courageous ways.
I believe what makes me unique as a positive psychology coach and master sound therapist, is my ability to establish a meaningful and intuitive connection with others. My goal with everyone I meet is to look for the beauty in everyone so that I can quickly reflect it back to them. We all want to know that we matter and that who we are as a person is enough. This is a self-care practice I started with myself over 20 years ago, that helped me to overcome my personal challenges.
What’s next?
My vision for Future Focused Coaching and Wellness is to continue building my Compassionate Community. I believe we all are healers in our own way. My main goal for our Compassionate Community is to decrease social isolation and promote safe connections with others. As a positive psychology coach, I teach my clients how to find safety within themselves so they can recognize safe people in their environments. True healing begins from within to the outside.
I also, plan to travel both domestically and internationally to continue my love of learning. I consistently strive for the highest and truest version of myself. I love meeting new people, learning new things, and adapting so that I can bring the best of me to all my family, friends, and clients.
I am making plans for podcasts and television interview-style shows. I believe I am only limited by imagination. Right now, what I am working towards will have me casting a broad net of happiness, compassion, and well-being to many many people. I sincerely believe the universe is divinely guiding me to great things.
