Today we’d like to introduce you to Serenity Rice.
Hi Serenity, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Doing hair always been a passion to me. I remember when I was a little girl, I use to be fascinated watching my mom doing my older sister hair. I would try to mimic her movements on my cabbage patch doll’s hair. I didn’t take doing hair seriously until I reach my sophomore year in high school. I started watching YouTube videos on different styles and re-created them on my sister and me. People at our school would always compliment us on how our styles were nice and unique. During 2015 my junior year in high school I pursue cosmetology at Florence career center. Getting my cosmetology license was my greatest accomplishment other than diploma. Even though I love being a hairstylist this journey wasn’t easy. There was years I thought about giving up my career and just getting a regular 9 to 5 job to make ends meet. However, I kept pushing myself and believe that I will become successful.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t. Doing hair is the easy part but trying to build a constant clientele is the hard part. When I was first out of cosmetology school, I thought I would never get my appointment books to fill. Also, I use to be so shy to the point I avoided booking some appointments. After I stop doing hair for a year and got a regular 9 to 5 I realized working for someone else is not what I want to do. It took years to build my confidence in myself and my business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The meaning of Serenity’s Touch is to step outside the box. I will daydream about a style I created in my mind and bring it to life either on myself or Andy of my clients. What sets me apart from other people is that I take my time and pay attention to details. When you first meet someone the first thing, you’ll see is their face and hair. Whether their hairstyle is pleasing to you or not, their hair will be one of the main things you will remember about them. I specialize in many different hairstyles that’s Carter’s to a variety of hair textures. My goal is to learn everything I can learn about hair before I retire.
What are your plans for the future?
In the future, I hope to own a hair salon and to open up an affordable beauty school. I’m also looking forward to my brands Juicy Rootz Growth Oil and Adeola Hair Collection to be worldwide. I know if I stay focus and believe in myself my goals will fall into place.
