Rising Stars: Meet Savannah Lambert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Lambert.

Hi Savannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Just four short years ago, I was a single mom working on my Business Degree. I juggled parenting a young child alone, working part-time for a national fitness franchise, and a heavy course load focused on Marketing. As a child and young adult, I enjoyed painting, building scale models, experimenting with recipes, performing in musical productions, and enticing my siblings to be styled models for my hobby photoshoots. However, in more recent years, I had lost my passion for the arts in all of life’s hustle and bustle. I met my now husband and rekindled my love of artistic expression through spending time with him. We have had two more children over almost three years of marriage and he has adopted our oldest son necessitating that I become a stay-at-home parent. I longed for a professional camera for quite some time, as I took countless photos and videos of my children daily. In February of this year, my father gifted me a Canon EOS Rebel T7. I explored my camera with my children for a few weeks and then began offering model calls. I am happy to say an international photography magazine has published me, and I was recently published for a second time by a national magazine. At first, I was terrified to offer model calls. But, I have worked consistently since I was 15 years old, so taking a two-and-a-half-year break from working in any capacity outside of the home was difficult and I was eager to get back to it. I was under the impression that it would take me years of effort to become published and consistently booked. I attribute my success to my loving, supportive husband, wonderful friends, industry mentors, and the grace of God.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been a smooth road. As a child, we faced poverty, bankruptcy, and foreclosure. I knew I would need good grades and a diverse course load to attend college. I was rejected from my dream college twice before shifting gears and ultimately graduating with my Business degree. Graduating took twice as long as it should have because my primary concern was caring for my oldest son. Those were some of the most challenging days of my life. I barely scraped by with my grades at times, and my mental health was difficult to manage during periods of extreme pressure and limited access to quality healthcare. I maintained my educational journey by constantly reminding myself that I could be the first of my immediate family to graduate college and the need to show my young son that he should never give up. I did fail along the way, but I pressed on. The support I received from my family and now husband was immeasurable. Specific to photography, I have struggled to get my name out there in an area with a high concentration of photographers. I am constantly striving to make mutually beneficial partnerships with local small businesses.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I offer photographic services to the CSRA and surrounding counties, including the military personnel and families of Ft. Gordon. We are an Army family, so I chose to specialize in promotions ceremonies and homecomings. I also enjoy family and couples. I have recently branched into Mommy & Me, Maternity, and Differently Abled sessions and have thoroughly enjoyed those. As a mother, I find it incredibly easy and fun to find ways to get small children to smile and enjoy themselves organically for high-quality and beautiful candids of organic moments. I am most proud of my growing reputation as a fun, energetic photographer who is very good with children. I believe what sets me apart the most in my area is my love and loyalty to our military members and their families.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have to credit two of the most inspiring photographers in my area. The first is Mandy Sharp of Sharpest Image Photography. She has become my friend and mentor, and I treasure our relationship as she is a senior photographer with over a decade of experience. Yet, she always makes me feel like her equal, even when I am calling her to ask simple questions. We met through our church, and I am so thankful for her. My second inspiration is Courtney Williams of Captured by Courtney. Courtney and I first met when she took announcement photos for my family. We were living in a hotel waiting for our moving arrangements to be finalized, had no awareness of the area, and had yet to make friends. Courtney made us feel so comfortable and has become our go-to family photographer. Her beautiful editing style inspired me to experiment to find my own light and dreamy style. She also is an incredibly kind and bubbly person. I can only hope to be half of what each of these women is!

My most incredible supporters are my father, in-laws, husband, children, and friends. My friends have come out to model for me and helped me to build my portfolio. Some friends have even partnered with me for special events so that I may get my name further dispersed through the community. I am truly blessed and incredibly thankful.
