Rising Stars: Meet Sarah Parker of Florence

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Parker.

Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a freelance social media manager and have just started getting back into photography. Looking back, social media has been a big part of my life since I was a teenager (my husband and I “met” on MySpace in middle school). At one of my very first jobs, I found myself managing social media for the company despite having no idea what I was doing, and I’ve always found it to be part of my job duties at almost every job I’ve held since. Over the years, my knowledge has grown immensely, and in 2021, I decided to launch Parker Social Collective – offering social media management services for small businesses. I’m also currently diving back into photography after a years-long hiatus. I’ve always had an appreciation for the beauty of it and yearned to create meaningful work myself that my clients can always cherish. My goal in my photography work is to capture my clients’ stories in a way that feels them authentically. Being both a social media manager and a photographer seems daunting, but the two pair so well together that I find it easy to navigate between both worlds.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not! I almost constantly feel imposter syndrome, and like there are many things I’m okay at but nothing that I’m great at (kind of like the expression – jack of all trades, master of none). That is my biggest struggle, along with falling into the comparison trap, but I always remind myself not to measure my success to others who have been at it much longer. Everyone’s journey is different, but still important, just the same!

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
As mentioned previously, I am a social media manager and photographer. I’ve always been creatively minded, which I’m known for. I’m the go-to person for family and friends anytime they need a creative brain to execute something. I’m proud of pursuing what I am passionate about instead of taking the easier road of a “normal” job. There’s a bit of uncertainty in this line of work, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. My dedication to my clients and their experience with me sets me apart from others. Whether from a social media management standpoint or in photography, I want to leave a lasting impression on the people I work with.

What makes you happy?
The times that I am happiest are when I’m spending quality time with my husband and our dogs, especially traveling and especially traveling to the mountains. My husband is my best friend, biggest supporter, and safe space, so any time with him is cherished. Our dogs are my built-in best friends, and I love experiencing their unconditional love and the privilege of giving them the best life I know how. And traveling, especially to the mountains, there’s just a peacefulness I experience in nature and hiking that cannot be beaten.
