Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Macelhiney.
Hi Robert, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Realizing a need for a quality cosmetology college in Greenville that kept it’s tuition within South Carolina averages, we felt and still feel there is a need for a college that provided a superior education in this area. Our college has won more awards in student competition at the local, state, regional, national and ever international contests than any other college in the area. We have offered a Pivot Point (TM) curricula almost from our onset. Pivot Point is considered the best curricula for our type training and is offered by over 2,000 schools and colleges throughout the world. Our instructors only job is to mentor and teach their students. All administrative functions are provided by the owners. Our student to teacher ratio is the lowest of any competitive area colleges and out tuition is thousands of dollars less than similar area colleges. Our instructors all have real -life experience in the fields they instruct. The owners are local and work in the college this giving our students availability with them. There is a real “familty” type atmosphere here and our mission is not only to training our students to pass the state board licensing exams, but how to build a client base when they start their careers and taught advanced concepts as well. The results: most of our students continue to be employed in the field the were trained in long after graduating.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since we focus on having quality instructors and do not spend a lot of money in advertising, we depend on word-of-mouth referrals We also only require students to purchase what they need to master the skills they need instead of requiring them to purchase extra things not necessary to learn the skills. We have a computer-based system which students can access on their cell phones to support our instructors. Students also have direct access to their individual records so they can monitor their progress through our program–again on just a smart phone.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
All our training is supported by internet access which teaches why something is done as well as how to do it. The results: students can quickly learn how to use their own creativeness to advance their work.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Our instructors are mentors for our students and help teach them the skills they will need to succeed on their career as well as helping them develop the work-habits need to be successful.
