Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Fusee.
Hi Nick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My wife Sandy and I have been coming to the Myrtle Beach area for about 20 years for vacation from our home in the Baltimore area. We knew we wanted to retire here probably after our first trip. We love the slower way of life, the people are so kind and the climate is a better fit for us. We purchased a lot in a community in North Myrtle Beach about 10-12 years ago for the purpose of building our retirement home as we loved this area so much.
I worked for the Baltimore Ravens for a long time and I knew I could retire in the spring of 2021. During the final year of my employment, Covid played a role as I had to work from home for the most part. I found this extremely boring. My wife’s (Sandy) business went down during the pandemic as well, so she was at home for the last year in Maryland as well. This changed our minds about retiring a bit… so we needed a plan for keeping busy.
I had bartended years back to help put myself through computer school and loved it. I had also noticed from our trips to Myrtle Beach that craft beer was not a big thing down here. So, we decided it would be fun to open a craft beer bar. We got lucky and found a great spot right on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am sure there is no such thing as a smooth road when opening and running a bar. We have had a few challenges with food supply items like everyone else. We have had a few teaching moments as well in terms of the ordering process of both food and beer. But all in all… not bad.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I worked for the Baltimore Ravens for 21 years. I started in Feb. 2000 and retired in May 2021. I worked in the I.T. field. I started as the network administrator and worked my way up to Vice President.
During my years with the team, I am most proud of the work I did on the digital playbook, being the first team in the NFL to accomplish that goal. I am also very proud of the two Super Bowl rings I received for being part of two championship teams.
