Rising Stars: Meet Melissa Pisani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Pisani.

Hi Melissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to do something to make a difference in people’s lives. My passion for as long as I can remember was leaning toward the entertainment business. I loved acting, dancing, interviewing people, singing, and making people laugh.

I had many opportunities both locally and nationally and really got a taste of what the business was all about. Unfortunately, there were a few instances that happened that made me realize I did not want to go the “Hollywood” route. I took some time off and started a career in hospitality and sales. After 5 years of being in sales, I knew I wanted more.

I started thinking about ways that I can “give back” and make an impact in people’s lives. It wasn’t until I met my husband by being set up on a blind date that all the pieces started to come together. We were set up by our mutual hairdresser/friend. After our 1st date, we were engaged in a month and married 6 months later. What I always say to people is, “when you know, YOU KNOW”.

After meeting Matt and realizing he had the same passions and desires everything started to make sense. Matt is the founder of a nonprofit called Clean Slate Living. The organization is an assembly program that focuses on starting over and sending the message that every life has worth, purpose, value and it’s never too late to have a “clean slate” and “rewrite tomorrow”.

Matt and I now run the organization together and get to share our stories and use our gifts and talents to encourage the younger generation. We try to make an impact in the lives around us in various ways. After we started a family we wrote a rhyming children’s book called Nala the Bulldog. The book is based on our French/English Bulldog.
The story is about self-worth and teaches kids that they are perfect just the way they are, even if it’s different. Matt and I also wanted to take it a step further and start our own podcast based off of our story. We focus on faith, family, and relationships. It’s called “The Puzzle is Real”.

Our podcast gives us an opportunity to go deeper and personal with our listeners. We love working together and pray that our love for God and people shines bright in all that we do. Today, we are living in Charleston with our 2 kids (Mercy 4, Malakai 2, and a new baby due December 27th this year).

I am blessed that God has brought me to where I am today by using my gifts and talents to bring love and light into people’s lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy but I have persevered. I started living on my own at 21 and moved away from my family at 22. I have had to provide for myself from a young age.

Some struggles I had was being in toxic relationships (both friends and romantic). It wasn’t until I grew deeper in my faith that I knew I wanted more for myself and those around me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the Vice President of Clean Slate Living, Podcast Host (The Puzzle is Real), and Author of a children’s book “Nala the Bulldog”.

My goal is to leave people with encouragement, hope, and purpose in all that I do.

I am most proud of being a wife and mom. Through all that I do I want to lead by example showing our kids that their purpose is never ending when you are going after all that God has for you.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes! I have learned that the only thing that really matters is your faith, family, health and home. Everything can get stripped away but those things are what really matters.
