Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn McCarty.
Hi Kaitlyn; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi everyone! My name is Kaitlyn McCarty, and I am a second-grade teacher in Myrtle Beach, SC. Not only am I an educator, but I am a children’s book author, cheerleading coach, content creator, and podcast host! In 2018, I started at Coastal Carolina University and graduated with my Bachelors in Elementary Education. Once I started teaching in 2022, little did I know that my students would impact me and encourage me to keep fulfilling my dreams. This year was my first year of teaching, and so many of my students had huge goals, and one day, one of them asked me what my next goal was. That’s when I decided to write a book! Have the Best Day Ever is a book depicting my first year of teaching through illustrations of my classroom and the daily affirmations we use. After this goal was completed, I just recently accomplished the beginning of a new journey as a podcast host of My Classroom Diaries. You can find this in both Apple and Spotify Podcasts! This journey has been so much fun and so exciting! I am so thankful for all of the love and support from not only my community but from my friends I have met through social media.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every journey has it’s own challenges, making it much more rewarding when you finally accomplish that goal. I truly am thankful for this journey and I am so excited to see where life leads me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a second-grade teacher first. I am so passionate about this and want to create a safe space for kids to come into, just in case they do not have that at home. I want my students to feel welcomed and comfortable when they walk in my classroom. I also want them to know they can be their true, authentic selves. On the side, I am a content creator, children’s book author, and podcast host! These are such fun hobbies and I love the community it has brought with it!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope educators get the recognition that they deserve all over the world! We give 110%, and we should be given 110% back! If you are an educator, THANK YOU and I am SO proud of you!
