Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonet Wooten.
Hi Jonet, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began in 2015, when at 53, I was scolded and escorted out of the juniors department while shopping for an outfit. Lol!
Here’s the thing, I was stuck smack dab in the middle between granny moo moos and junior wear, with very few stylish and flattering options or examples available to me (us). To quote Alanis Morissette, it was pretty “Ironic” when you consider women celebrating their 50s and beyond, account for over $15 trillion in buying power!
As a former newspaper reporter, it seemed only natural to embark upon a new career, researching and reviewing brands and products to share with my midlife + ageless friends on the internet. Fabulously Chic Over 50 was my contribution to the fashion influencer community, but for women who’ve had more adventures and blown out a few more candles.
In 2016, I created a series called “She’s Got Style”, where I interviewed and featured fabulous midlife women from around the world. As a result, FCO50, grew an international following. We will be bringing this popular series back this summer with new Midlife Influencers, which means new style ideas and inspiration for our followers.
Fast forward to 2022 and Fabulously Chic Over 50 is still my cozy cyber home, where our topics have now expanded to everything from hot flashes to beauty, from gardening to pets and travel, all with humor sprinkled on top.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The first obstacle I faced while kicking off my adventures in the blogosphere, was social media and blogging knowledge, or the lack thereof.
The struggle was R E A L, friends.
Back then, I thought the acronym “SEO” meant “Selective Energy Output”. Turns out, I was wrong, it’s something super important, “Search Engine Optimization.” You can see how I got those two mixed up.
My new To Do List was now filled with odd things like:
1. How finding the right blog color combo could either make your followers laugh or cry.
2. “WordPress” it’s not a juicer for words.
3. Why my favorite bedtime hour might be the “best time to post” and other ridiculous notions.
It was a lot for my 50+ brain to learn, but I did it and now have the knowledge to create blog sites myself.
Long answer to a short question… It’s never, ever too late to embark on a new journey.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve long been a nature and landscape photography enthusiast. The notion that one can actually capture a moment in time, emotion, something powerful or beautiful for a lifetime is truly a gift.
When our daughter left our nest empty and went off to college, we made a trip to visit her. I know, shocking! While there, I took my camera and explored the beautiful Texas A&M campus, taking photos of statues, trees, and buildings.
I shared them on my Photography Website and was surprised to receive a phone call from the university about my photograph of one of their landmarks, The Century Tree.
They were adding a new building and wanted to hang it in one of the wings. Words cannot explain the gratitude and excitement this honor gave me. We went up to the campus the day they celebrated the opening of this new addition to the campus.
To be a teensy tiny part of my daughter’s alma matter is the best moment in my professional career.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Oh my goodness, how long do you have?
My husband was actually born and raised in Greenville, so when he got the phone call that the company needed him here, we jumped at the opportunity.
Although my introduction to the south began when I met my hubby, I instantly fell in love with the traditions, patriotism, kindness, generosity, and hometown food! Old-fashioned manners are still alive and well in Greenville and I wouldn’t want to live anyplace else.
