Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Bice.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Welcome to Laurel Haven Estate! Discover the journey of Jenna Bice, a 7th-generation South Carolinian turned wine enthusiast. From my first awe-inspiring visit to a vineyard in Napa during a family vacation at age 13, I fell in love with the world of wine. Combining my passion for food, extensive travel, and a 16-year career in the medical industry, I embarked on a quest to find the perfect vineyard property. After thorough research and soil analysis, I found the gem I searched for in Lancaster, SC. This breathtaking 37-acre estate boasts the ideal soil for grape cultivation. In 2018, I became the proud owner of this beautiful property, which has since flourished as an exceptional event venue and charming bed & breakfast. In 2022, we took the first step towards creating remarkable wines by planting 770 Crimson Cabernet grapevines. Combining the best qualities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Norton, these grapes bring a unique flavor to our wines. The following year, 770 Vidal Blanc grapevines joined our vineyard, adding their distinctive touch to our collection. Looking ahead to 2024, we plan to honor the rich grape-growing heritage of South Carolina by planting a special SC Heritage lot. These grapevines, including Herbemont, Lenior, and Catawba, have roots dating back to the 1700s. But the journey doesn’t end in the vineyard! In 2023, we transformed the downstairs of Laurel Haven Estate into a captivating winery tasting room. We’re excited to open our doors in 2024, offering weekly wine tastings and a delightful entertainment experience for all who visit. Join us as we indulge in winemaking and savor the exquisite flavors crafted with love and dedication.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have gone from novice to vineyard enthusiast. Although raised on 50 acres in Blythewood, SC, I had no farming background. But I was determined to pursue my passion for vineyards. With the help of a vineyard consultant and Clemson’s New and Beginning Farmer’s program, I gained valuable knowledge. I am now a proud member of the NC Winegrowers Association to gain knowledge from other amazing vineyard owners. I have overcome challenges and paved the way for the first commercial vineyard and winery in Lancaster County.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am passionate about crafting unforgettable experiences for others. Through the perfect combination of wine, food, and environment, I aim to create moments that will stay with you forever. Each room in our estate is thoughtfully designed to reflect the kind of vacation I enjoy. Prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking property views and embark on an incredible journey through our exquisite wine and food offerings.
