Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayya Yedid.
Hi Jayya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My massage story started in 2012 when I did a trip to Northern California to a place called Harbin Hot Springs. There I met my life partner, which was a bodyworker himself. After 2 years of a long-distance relationship, we decided to move in together, and we found a little cozy house by the beach in Santa Cruz, Ca. There I quickly started to learn everything I could about the body.
Not only about the physical body, but the subtle, energetic, emotional, and spiritual body we all have. To massage, someone is more than just following a technique and knowing about muscles, joints, tissues, etc. Is also about listening to the body of the person that is lying on your massage table. It might sound simple to do, but that takes a lot of practice. After years of practicing different massage techniques, I decided to pack everything that I learned over time and make my own signature massage, which I consider to be very efficient, different, and unique. I use hot obsidian stones that I brought from Mexico. Those are very powerful tools to get deeper into the muscles and work not only on the knots but also on the subtle body. Obsidians suck all the negativity, toxins, and waste, and purify the body.
These stones ultimately deliver a comforting sensation, that brings peace and relaxation as no other method or technique will provide. The pace is another important factor, for this, I hear attentively to the body and I move according to each person’s unique rhythm, so the nervous system can relax, open up, and take in all the healing that is already happening, as everything is evolving. In the end, I seal every massage session with a sound bath.
In my observation, this is the best way to finish a massage since the body is all relaxed and ready to receive even more healing benefits. I play my crystal singing bowl and take my clients to the next level: to an elevated state of mind which for some of them “the best experience ever”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me hasn’t been hard, but I think that like any profession, one has to embrace the process of learning, and by that, I mean not just finishing school and getting a degree, but everything that comes after that. We still have to learn so many things after going to school.
Life experience is called. So for me, patience is a key element because we usually think we are ready for something when we are still not there yet.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am also a chef, and as a chef, you have to be very creative and innovative with your dishes. When it comes to massage, I think my mind works the same way. I always like trying different things with my clients. I like to switch it a little bit.
As I was explaining before, the act of listening is very important. A way to put it is that for me everybody is a different instrument, and each of them makes different sounds, so I always try to be sensitive enough, to know and learn how to play that instrument and make the most beautiful melody out of it.
