Rising Stars: Meet Drew Amato of Market Common/Myrtle Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Amato.

Drew Amato

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I split my time between playing poker and photography when I was younger. Photography was always the primary source of income, but poker rapidly became an obsession and, for a few years, took over as my job. Somewhere along the line, the two merged, and I started my career as a poker photographer. Over the last decade, I have covered everything from the World Series of Poker to World Poker Tour events worldwide. In 2018 & 2019, I was recognized with back-to-back Global Poker Awards for my work.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Working for yourself always presents challenges. Whether chasing down money from clients or trying to find a balance between work and life, there is always something on your mind. Recently, the most challenging thing is trying to slow the travel down.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Recently, I’ve started to combine my passion for golf with my love of photography. I now do a lot of drone photography/videography for golf courses. In 2024, I will push to transition into more work on the golf side.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think something most people don’t know about me is that I also have quite a passion for cooking. If I weren’t in photography, I’d go to culinary school and try to hone my cooking skills. For now, I will stick to cooking things on my Traeger!
