Rising Stars: Meet Don Carti

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Carti.

Hi Don, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started with me attending a relative, “Gmf Lonnie” studio sessions every weekend since 2017. Just sitting and learning from how he came up with music gave me nothing but motivation. I finally built up enough confidence to book my own session in late 2018, September, around the time when I lost a very close loved one in my life, my grandmother, Carolyn Robinson. Over time I tried my best to go to the studio every weekend.

I made up my mind that I wasn’t going to stop no matter what was going on around me or any situation I may have found myself in. I have always felt like I was learning more about myself with every song I made but the songs that caught the fan’s attention were “Freestyle”, “No Disrespect” & “Stephanie’s Child” All produced by Ayo Kayjae.

As time progressed, from 2019-2021, I went through speed bumps and minor setbacks but I never let them discourage me. I kept my balance through every situation; I would call that part of my life the hibernation stage. At that time I was still making a different type of music while continuously reaching my highest potential and finding out who was really in my corner. It wasn’t until this year, 2022, that I started getting more recognition.

I reached back out to a close friend of mine who is a videographer Maleek Bradley who goes by “Leek Films” and the Owner of “BAKKROADZ” who also happens to be a part of the US NAVY. From high school where we both attended Crestwood High School in Sumter, Sc we came up with a master plan for me to take it to the next level and move to San Diego, CA to be introduced to a bigger state and new faces to accomplish our goals one step at a time. We are currently located in San Diego as planned and are constantly expanding the fanbase and receiving recognition.

From here, everything is getting bigger and better. “Leek Filmz” directs and films every video that we produce and dish out to the fans. Our latest single, “Do what I wanna” Streaming on YouTube has caught attention back in the Carolinas and on the west coast with promotional pages such as “CarolinaBuzz”, “DayGoSounds”, “CaliHoodmedia”, “Vereentv” and many others featuring us on their story and feed.

We also have just made the “Top 20 list in the Carolinas that deserve a record deal.”What’s Next?? Don Carti Plans on Dropping his highly anticipated mixtape “Mastermind” which we look to drop in August of this year that is looking to turn heads all around the globe.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been plenty of struggles along the way but I didn’t let them get to me & kept God 1st.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m Artist some would say I’m versatile or say I’m a “Hood Poet” what sets me different from others is my actions behind the lyrics I actually live but I don’t participate in misleading the youth.

I specialize in my wordplay to where a kid a understand it and gain something from my rhymes & I’m known for influencing others and keeping them uplifted and I’m very proud of myself for making this far with no regrets.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
That I’m independent & not sign to any label everything is coming out of our pockets, everything is natural nothing. is made up.
