Rising Stars: Meet Center of Thought

Today we’d like to introduce you to Center of Thought. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Center of Thought (COT) is the brainchild of Founder Trevor’s desire to integrate STEM and art disciplines all under one roof. With only a couple of years of educational experience, he thought “why aren’t there any creative alternatives being offered to grade school students in the area.” Even the STEM offerings had seemed to be scarce. From there the seed was planted. The team building began, which consisted of educators, a scientist, technologists, an engineer, an artist, and mathematically inclined individuals.

Center of Thought’s mission is to educate and empower future scientists, technologists, engineers, artists, and mathematicians by providing tools, resources, and opportunities that help to build skills to prepare them for their careers at an early age. COT also strives to enrich the community by giving children and young adults advanced exposure to STEAM careers. They cultivate emerging STEAM professionals to build a pipeline for creatives through an interdisciplinary approach.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Center of Thought has been pacing itself, so many of its transitions have been relatively smooth. The most difficult part for COT’s creators was navigating the world of all things non-profit, but with the support of neighboring professionals, those proverbial kinks are continuously being ironed out.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Center of Thought has its third annual Black History Essay/Art Contest being hosted in February 2023. This is a cash prize contest offered to high school students from all over. See the website for previous winners: https://centerofthought.org/essay-art-contest.
