Rising Stars: Meet Alicia Dupuis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Dupuis.

Hi Alicia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As an only child, I was a pretty quiet kid who was used to having to entertain myself! As a teenager, my mom took me to get my first headshots to submit to agencies and give the whole acting thing a go! Through school plays and community theatre, I found a love for something that brought me out of my shell! The stage was somewhere where I instantly felt at home. I grew up about 45 minutes from Boston, Massachusetts. I remember my mom picking me up early from school several times to make the drive into the city for auditions. I was so excited when I booked my first film role! It was a small, independently-produced music video, but it got me a resumé credit and the ball rolling! Landing that first job was such a confidence boost. It made me feel like I could do this! I started to book more roles and soon had my first acting reel!

Fast forward a few years, and I lived just outside of NYC. My mom(and dog!) made the move with me, and it was such an adventure. I booked some entertaining commercials, tv roles, and modeling work! Fast forward another few years, and I got to do what every actor dreams of: living and working in LA! God had other plans for me besides NYC and LA, though! Fast forward again, and here I am in Charlotte, NC., working like crazy in the southeast region! I’m so glad I listened when God gave me the feeling I was supposed to move here. I have never worked this consistently, and I’ve never had such an amazing group of friends. I have found my place. This is truly my home!

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
While there have been some smooth times in my career, I’ve certainly had my share of bumps along the road! While it’s true that once I booked one job it started a domino effect and I started to book a lot more work, it took a while to book that first job. It didn’t happen overnight. I went on audition after audition without hearing anything back. I never thought about quitting, though. I wanted to be in front of the camera so badly. I was going to make it happen, and I’m so glad I stuck with it! Also, there have been times when I’ve had multiple shoots in one week, going from an all-day shoot to an all-night shoot and then having one day to rest before another shoot! Then there are times when I say you can hear the crickets! I don’t let the slow times get me down, though! Auditions and shoots always pick up again, and usually, in that slow season, some jobs I’ve previously worked on get released.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most proud that I’ve become so well-rounded in what I do. I love variety and adventure and found it in the acting and modeling industry! I’ve done very dramatic emotional film roles, comedic and silly commercial roles, fun print jobs, and so much in between! I love that every job brings something new! New places, new faces, and new challenges! In December of 2021, my mom and I were in workout videos for a company called Lyfe At Home(photo included). It was so much fun getting to work together!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
When I first started acting, every audition was in person. Then, it got to the point where I went in for auditions 50% of the time, and the rest were recorded at home. That has shifted now to almost 100% of auditions being recorded remotely. It’s become necessary to have professional lighting, a camera tripod, etc. I have “The Studio Room” in my house, where everything is ready to go. I’ll often receive an audition invite that’s due within a day, so it’s essential always to be prepared and ready. For Christmas last year, my mom got me a ring light that I now travel with in case I get an audition while on the go!
