Rising Stars: Meet Alexis Vancompernolle of Charleston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Vancompernolle.

Alexis Vancompernolle

Hi Alexis, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I worked in the medical field for about six years, which was disheartening. In 2020, I decided it was time for a change. I got a job working at Grit & Grace Studio as a production artist. I had to ask the owner if I could sell my jewelry in her shop, and it just grew from there. I was working part-time and selling my stuff in the shop, and then around this time last year, I went off of my own, which was very exciting.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been good, but I can be quite scared of anything new.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
So, my small business is called Evergarden. I use local flowers to make jewelry. I also do handmade cameos. I love that I get to do something that I’m passionate about. I get to create new things every day.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
I would’ve never had this without Rachel, who owns Grit and Grace; she motivated me and was so supportive. Another person who encouraged me was my grandfather. He used to collect flowers for me whenever I saw him when I was little. He would write me a little letter, telling me how much he loved and enjoyed time with me, and the flowers would be Pressed in the book. Unfortunately, he passed away. And when he passed away, I lost the book and wished I had a way to preserve those flowers to keep with me. That’s what inspired me to start Evergarden and make my jewelry.
