Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Summers.
Hi Yolanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to entrepreneurship began in December 2013 when my husband and I owned and operated Summers Lane Learning Center a child care facility in Summerville SC that grew and developed until March 2018. During that time, my love for business development expanded as Summers & Sons Jump Castles was originated and LIFE apparel. Summers Lane Learning Center was the concrete for creating a safe environment for children 2-12 years of age to learn, adapt, nurture and excel. The same compassion and zeal that allowed me to foster my growth also compelled me to overcome adversity when it arose in 2018.
Summers Lane Learning Center closed in March 2018 and Summers & Sons Jump Castles and LIFE apparel began to soar. I was able to provide families and communities with the very thing that was troubling my life, joy! At the beginning of 2018, my family and I experienced so many life-altering challenges that stemmed from financial difficulties, family issues and heartbreak, Nevertheless, it was in those moments that LIFE apparel became a safe haven for women and The Heart of a Mother, #GirlGetUp and Mom, Ministry and Mental Health was formed under its umbrella.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been tumultuous. There are a lot of uncertainties when you begin to prepare a life for you and others. Most of the struggles are some things that you can’t control. In 2018, my husband and I were at the end of our lease, and the space in which we housed our child care facility had other future plans that didn’t fit our business. The closing of Summers Lane Learning Center weighed heavy on my heart and mind because you feel responsible for your employees’ finances, your family’s well-being and most importantly you feel obligated to make sure the children in your care will experience the love, care, and safety that you have provided for them over the years.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time employee at Claflin University as an Administrative Assistant, Summers & Sons Jump Castles Administrative Assistant, Co-Pastor at Messiah Pointe Ministries, and the Creator and Developer of LIFE apparel where I empower and inspire women through my faith walk.
I am most proud of my work at Messiah Pointe Ministries and LIFE apparel. I have always had the love to care for and educate young children. However, my passion to encourage women intensified as life became a roller coaster for me. As a mother, wife, Life infuser and businesswoman, I am humbled and grateful for every Godly opportunity to showcase the great work that God is doing in me and through me.
I am set apart from others because I am transparent and authentic. Life has taught me many lessons in my marriage, as a mother, in my finances, relationships and ultimately myself. All of my trials and tribulations has allowed me to sit with myself and focus on the “now: moments and how to move forward.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
To connect with me, I can be reached or viewed weekly on LIFE apparel Facebook page where I post weekly commentary and display my upcoming events. I am also found on Messiah Pointe Ministries Facebook page every Thursday and Sunday. Please feel free to email me at yolandasummers@ymail.com for inquiries, bookings, or collaborations.
