Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Skelley.
Hi Susan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a self-taught artist that started painting full-time and professionally in 2011.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s hard to find the time to wear all the other hats involved in an artist’s life. I just want to wear a beret and hold a brush in my hand! I’m jealous of the time social media and administrative duties take.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m probably most known for being a color-chasing abstract artist. I paint intuitively but also intentionally…always gleaning inspiration from everyday life. People always talk about fear of “the blank canvas” but that is my favorite part! I hope I never lose my creative authenticity.
Because I am self-taught and started late in life, I am proud of my mentions and features in various magazines and articles but have mostly enjoyed the people, clients, and designers I met on this journey.
What matters most to you? Why?
It matters to me that I remain true to creative myself. I want to approach every canvas like a 5-year-old…without fear, without comparison, and paint with joyful curiosity. I believe this keeps my passion alive.
