Hi Susan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re Susan and Jim Heintzman, and our story begins with service. We are both U.S. Army Veterans, proudly serving a combined 47 years on active duty. Service has always been at the core of who we are – serving our country, serving our teams, serving our communities, and now, serving through health and wellness. After retiring from the Army, we chose to make South Carolina our forever home. We absolutely fell in love with this community, and we knew this was where we wanted to plant roots and build something meaningful.
Today, we both work at the National Center for Credibility Assessment on Fort Jackson, while simultaneously building Flo & Glo IV – Wellness Lounge, a woman-owned, veteran-owned luxury wellness and aesthetics lounge designed to help people feel their absolute best – restoring Health, Confidence, and Glow from within. Over the last five years, we have also been deeply immersed in the health space as Certified Health Coaches, helping nearly 2,000 people transform their lives through metabolic health, weight management, and lifestyle change. Through our own personal and family health challenges, we realized how essential proactive wellness truly is. That calling is the heart behind Flo & Glo – to help people get ahead of their health instead of reacting to illness or waiting for crisis.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not – and we wouldn’t want it to be. Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. It will stretch you, test you, and refine you. At every turn there have been unexpected challenges – construction delays, vendor issues, financial pressures, the stress of balancing full-time careers with building a business from the ground up, and the emotional weight of leading a team toward a vision that doesn’t yet exist in physical form.
But we believe the obstacle is the way. Each challenge has strengthened our faith and deepened our resilience. We stand firm in the belief that if God is for us, who can be against us? We have seen His fingerprints all over this journey – the right people appearing at exactly the right time, doors opening that we could never have forced open, and confirmation after confirmation that we are walking the path He prepared. We don’t attribute our progress to luck – we attribute it to God’s grace, guidance, and timing, and we give Him all the glory.

How do you think about luck?
We don’t believe in luck as much as we believe in purpose. Every step of this journey has been covered by God’s grace. When things looked impossible, He provided. When plans seemed delayed, He revealed perfect timing. When we needed wisdom, He brought the right people. So, if “luck” played any role, it was simply being blessed by His hand from start to finish.
