Meet Shatana Davis of Elgin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shatana Davis.

Shatana Davis

Hi Shatana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a young lady at an early age, I always knew entrepreneurship was my goal. While working at a daycare, I was encouraged to attend school to become a licensed Nail Technician. My first thought was, I’m wondering if I could deal with feet all day, not knowing there was more to the job than just feet. In 2009, I decided to take that step and apply. It was the best decision I ever made. I completed my course in about 6 months because I attended the night classes. After completing my course, I took my licensure exam and passed on the first try. Employment wasn’t an issue because my sister had a hair salon. That’s where I landed my first job and began my career as a licensed Nail Technician. The journey was rocky starting, but I never lost faith in God! Throughout the last 13 years in the industry, I have had the opportunity to work in a Spa before branching out on my own. I am forever grateful for every opportunity I was given to launch me to where I am today. As of today, I am the Owner and founder of Elegance 1 on 1 Nails Salon located in Elgin, South Carolina. I stepped out on faith in July 2017 to open my studio. I’ve been very blessed, so in return, I need to pay it forward every chance I get. I have had the opportunity to create jobs for others with the same passion as me to serve our community one nail polish at a time! In 2022, My passion for working with children was still burning, and I was granted the opportunity to bring forth my vision by opening a kid’s spa where we host birthday parties and spa days for little girls who are beginning to take off nicely.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I stated above, my journey starting was rocky. I left my job working at the daycare with 0 clients to call my own. I took the first step, and I trusted God with the rest. My sister, who had been in the industry for 20-plus years, was there to help guide me in the right direction. She blessed me by buying me my first product haul to jumpstart me. There were some weeks I only made my booth rent, which was $125.00, and I was still responsible for paying it in full, and I did that.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At this stage in my Nail career, I love simplicity! I love a good Gel Manicure or even Dip set. About 90 % of my clients get Dip sets. So I guess you can call me the “Queen of Dip” that’s my specialty! I’m most proud of my versatility. I can pull my art skills out and whip up a nice set of acrylics if I have to. What sets me apart from other salons is my salon’s name. The name speaks for itself, and I will stand by it. You will always receive 1 on 1 service. Your time is yours, and there will be little to no wait time.

What are your plans for the future?
I recently completed my methods of teaching for Nail Technology, so I plan to complete my exam and become a licensed instructor to teach. My plan for that certification is to start my organization to offer CEU classes for recertifications. Also, I look forward to creating more job opportunities, even for people interested in becoming licensed professionals in the beauty industry. No Major changes for now; however, we are always looking for ways to improve and grow continuously.
