Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodrick & Brittney Scott.
Hi Rodrick & Brittney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Before it all I grew up around Whole Hogg Bbq cooked over coals on a brick pit, my grandfather, dad, and uncles would do a cook every 4th of July, I always begged for the pork skin. Grandma would make homemade bbq hash, sides and her own sauce as well for that holiday. Being a kid, I wanted to stay around them cooking all night bc it was always good times & I always loved that great taste of pulled pork. Fire, laughs, and that whole Hogg aroma are unforgettable. The business started bc both my wife and I would always host events at our home so food was always involved. After getting high praises for how good our food was it gave us confidence that we didn’t know we needed. I would cook on the grill and she made all the sides, which is exactly how we run our bbq business now. We started on 2 Traeger Pellet grills and just decided to step out on faith and go do a random pop up, surprisingly the outcome and support was descent, and the more we did it the more we grew but not happy enough with the flavor I knew I had to change my cooking technique, already wanting a better flavor we decided all wood on a 500 Gallon Austin Smoke Works Smoker was the best route. Cooking with Oak & Pecan. Once converted to all wood our popularity took a tremendous turn and we started having long lines an selling out quickly. Catering Request and Pre Orders became normal after our flavor grew. Roughly 2 years later so it takes time.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was a lot of times I wanted to give up but my wife kept me motivated and inspired. Dealing with customers who weren’t use to our style and concept, long days of prep, extremely long cooks, not selling all your product, and believing it wasn’t good enough. Sometimes not making a profit and coming up short or losing money. That stuff plays games with your mind
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Scott’s A1 Southern Bbq?
