Meet Rizwana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rizwana.

Hi Rizwana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The SOL Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization in Illinois, USA, providing assistance in Kenya, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, the District of Congo, Cameroon, Mali, Uganda, and India. We work with underserved communities, marginalized women, orphans, and disabled people.

Due to a variety of challenges, including but not limited to political differences, financial constraints, and illiteracy, these groups of people are frequently overlooked and continue to be impoverished.

The SOL Foundation’s mission is to eliminate hunger through education.

Our customer promise is to provide nature-based education and training for a better quality of life, empowerment and co-habitat sustainably.

We serve underprivileged communities that consist of poor people, marginalized women, orphans, and individuals with disabilities.

We work on a variety of projects, including education, reforestation, plantation, fresh water, and wildlife conservation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We began in January 2020 and were unprepared for the unexpected; Covid. During the lockdown in March, we expected it to last a week, but Covid proved to be more resilient than expected. Collaboration partnerships were modified.

Another issue that we are currently dealing with. There are many organizations that can benefit from being a part of The SOL Foundation, however owing to inflation, financial sponsorship is difficult to come by.

Every day, we confront new challenges, and we do our best to overcome them as we progress and learn!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When we stepped in Africa, during Covid, we came face to face with poverty, illiteracy, and lack of water.

This reality not only shook us to the core, but understood something has to be done. Some changes need to take place. Giving donations can go so much, so we realized education is the key to fighting poverty.

We started educating underserved communities regarding environment, provided them with necessary resources and then worked together to plant School/Community Gardens., which are 100% edible, which consist of vegetables, fruits and local herbs.

We saw a positive change within the community in 2 years. Children started loving to come to gardens and shoveling, adults took responsibility for keeping trespassers away from the gardens and elders started enforcing community outreach.

How do you think about happiness?
The reason we continued with The SOL Foundation is we are fighting climate change, sustainable agriculture and animal conservation.

When a child has access to at least one nutritional food and where it comes from, we realize tomorrow’s leaders will create better methods for food sustainability.

When we see adults feeling happy as they understand agriculture in today’s time has more entrepreneurial opportunities. It is jo security. They feel content.

When we are working with organizations to stop animal poaching, we know we are saving species from existence.

These are just a few reasons that keep us going.
