Meet Rebecca Collett of Collett Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Collett.

Rebecca Collett

Hi Rebecca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I spent nearly half of my life working in the traditional news industry. It was the only work I ever wanted to do. I had great experiences and met so many wonderful people. I knew I needed to change once I got pregnant with my third child. I was heartbroken to leave my career in the news- where I was finally at a place where I felt like I was making a difference- but I knew my family needed me more. I started Collett Media in March 2020 to earn enough to pay for our little private school. Within a few months, I had outgrown that goal. Within the first two years, I made enough to support my family.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I never planned to be a business owner. I never intended to run a company. I had no idea what I was doing. I was fortunate that my husband has been successful in business and was able to give me feedback. I also had incredible people share their experiences with me and guide me. The hardest part has been figuring out how to balance my company and my family. I left my corporate job to spend more time with my kids. But running my own business takes a lot of work and attention. I am constantly recalibrating my goals and my focus.

As you know, we’re big fans of Collett Media. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
Collett Media is a boutique PR and video production company. We work with various clients, including museums, logistics companies, nonprofits, etc. I work with different creative people so we can expand and contract our teams to meet the needs of our clients. My entire working history has been making concepts understandable and attractive to the general public. I’m not a traditional marketer. I’m a professional communicator. And because of my TV news background, my company is unique in that we can offer video production along with our other PR services. We want to do work that impacts our community and improves it. I am also mindful of the budget constraints of other small to medium businesses. We fill the niche to make having a fraction CMO possible.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I always wanted to be a news reporter. My earliest memories are interviewing my cousins and pretending to report live from our Christmas morning fun. I am the second of four kids in my family. I have an older sister that I adore. I was the typical litter sister- always wanting to follow her around and steal her clothes. I also have two little brothers who are 12-ish years younger than me. I love being a sister. I’m incredibly close with my siblings, and our family unit is exceptional. I have always been interested in public speaking and communication. I competed in several speaking competitions as a kid and loved it. I also have a strong need for adventure. When I was 19, I left to backpack around Europe by myself. That’s why I don’t mind owning my own business. I don’t mind the risks. Faith has also been a massive part of my life. I became a Christian when I was around 12 years old, and I was very aware of my faith since then and my faith gives me a lot of confidence to push into new challenges.
