Meet Piper Stromatt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Piper Stromatt.

Hi Piper, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all began when I was 10 years old. My mom let my sister and I fully pick every single item for our shared bedroom at the time. We of course picked very opposite things and very wild things. We simply split the rooms down the middle and were able to express our tastes through colors. My side was lime green wallpaper with pink and orange accents, and my sister’s colors were purple wallpaper, blues, and green accents.

We both shared a lime green carpet, a black and white bathroom, and chandeliers that had blue and pink crystals on them. Growing up, it was every little girl’s dream, but now that I think back, it was the first time I looked at a space and was so proud. If my mom wouldn’t allow us to make those wild decisions, I don’t think I would have ever found my passion for Interior Design.

Jumping to 2010, My amazing high school (West High School in Knoxville). Had Interior Design 1 course and Interior Design 2 courses available for freshman and sophomores. I thought to myself, wow – I really have a chance to do this! Fast forward to my junior year after completing two years of interior design and winning the first-ever Interior Design award that the faculty actually made for me, I knew I wanted to be an Interior Designer and keep moving forward with that carrier path.

Fast-forwarding to 2011, I decided to attend The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for Interior Design and Architecture. It was a small but extremely dedicated CIDA accredited school in the heart of Chattanooga not far from home which was Knoxville, Tennessee. In 2015, I graduated and soon found myself in Commercial Design which was not for me. I found my true love for Interior design and Residential building later that year and have never left.

Now, successfully working on more than 500+ homes, I get to live my passion every single day through our business Boutique Living By Curate. We specialize in boutique custom homes and have a very strategic organized approach to building in the downtown Chattanooga area.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the struggles I have faced while in the professional world is self-comparison. Social media came into play heavily while in college and now a lot of people and businesses revolve around the platforms we know too well. Social media plays a huge role positively and negatively in the design and creative worlds. As some find it wildly inspirational like I often do, but also see myself comparing myself to many other creators, designers, and personalities and I know for a fact that I am not alone.

Another struggle that I have had along the way is my age. Most often people who are younger in the professional world have not had the exposure or the experience to be where I am at today. However, I had the best mentors throughout my college years through my internships, my professors, and the deans that I had at UTC in the professional world. My first job in the residential construction world was at now our sister company GreenTech Homes.

There is where I learned the bulk of my knowledge as we built over 500 customized production homes over my 6-year stint, and I would not trade that experience for the world. There, had a wonderful leader named Paul Teruya who took a chance on a 22-year-old fresh out of school and just wanted to learn. We are now business partners in our company Boutique Living By Curate.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What makes Boutique Living By Curate different is that weaves a guided customer experience into a custom build process to craft our homeowner’s ideal space. Boutique materials, lush views, and distinguished quality come together to create the home you are envisioning, with expert design to facilitate the concept.

Our clients are provided exclusive sessions with our skilled design team, who will talk you through selections in each phase, ensuring ease throughout the build process. Ideas will become reality, as the curated experience elevates a home.

We want every single homeowner to feel like family and be treated like family. Our goal is to have repeat clientele who either build again or refer us as a builder to build for their friends, families, co-workers, etc.

What were you like growing up?
Most of my friends and family know that I absolutely live for the experience. Whether is it experiencing something new, tasting something new, or pushing myself into unknown territory such as my latest endeavor, The Building Blonde Podcast.

Growing up, I was very energetic, never sat down, and had the nickname “energizer bunny”. I always had a love for interior design and often would rearrange the areas I was in the most.

I adore my time with my family. I love traveling, wine, and trying new things! One thing people may not know is that I can be shy, a homebody, reserved, and love watching a good Netflix series and enjoying a date night at home with delivery food with my husband, Tyler.
