Today we’d like to introduce you to Pearce Scott and Allison Bonner.
Pearce and Allison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Having spent years working for others in Savannah while living in the low country in South Carolina, we recognized an opportunity to be able to open up a firm in Bluffton to work in and serve our local community. We started, just the two of us, with the support of our families, on the opposite ends of a dining room table. We soon were able to move into a small storefront space and quickly found ourselves curating our staff from professionals we had worked with in the past. This created a fun and relaxed environment that allowed us to grow a culture that fostered creativity, intentionality, and flexibility. A few years later we found ourselves moving into our own building and in the position to be able to expand the firm’s size and reach. For the past couple years, this outreach has grown into partnerships with local charities and organizations, lending our time, talent, and resources for the betterment of our community. We pride ourselves on not just being great designers and architects, but actively ingraining a service mentality into our office culture.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Architects are not known for their business savvy, so there was a lot of “on-the-job” training. We recognized that the business part is just as important as the creative side, so we sought out a business coach and with his help developed a healthy knowledge of systems and processes that have allowed us to flourish while still doing what we love.
We’ve been impressed with Pearce Scott Architects, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are proud to be a family-first, employee-focused organization where we recognize that home and work necessarily intertwine. We offer flexibility at all levels which has allowed us, especially in COVID times, to seamlessly transition from working in the office to home, and even remotely working from a new state.
We specialize in custom residential and boutique commercial architecture. We feel that investing in our employees fosters creativity and collaboration, which then shows through to the finished product.
We are known for our unique perspectives, creative approaches, and deep listening skills in order to produce a design that is client-centered and brings to life their vision.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We consider ourselves lucky to be in an affluent, growing market, that values and needs our service. 17th-century poet Milton, claims that luck is the residue of design. We feel we have made intentional, educated decisions to get us to where we are today, with an immense amount of support. I guess that makes us lucky.
