Nu Amore

Hi Nu, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Honestly, I myself can’t believe I’m in the position I am. But you know, by the grace and blessings of God and HARD WORK. I was able to overcome every obstacle thrown my way. If you asked me a year ago, if I was interested in doing hair? The question would be Absolutely NOT. I was honestly, never interested in turning it into a business. It was definitely more so, a I had someone mess my hair up one time and from there on out I was my OWN hairstylist. It went from a few compliments, to constantly getting begged to do peoples hair. I was always taught, when a door opens….you run towards it. And I was tired of ignoring my blessings. So I decided since I was going to college to start over and turn over a new leaf, why not start a new hobby as well.

When I first got to camp, like any other business owner business was slow…and when I say slow…. I mean SLOWWWWW. My only client was my bestfriend, and I was doing her hair for FREE. But with hard work and lots of dedication, I was able to rake in my first PAYING client. I created flyers, hung them up everywhere. I literally promoted myself any and every chance I got. This got me a lot of recognition on campus. One client turned to 2, 2 turned to 6 and so on. I’m saying all this to say, all you have to do is put yourself out there. No matter how scared or shy, don’t knock it until you try it. One decision changed my life!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not, there’s some days I’m WISHING for clients. But you know, as college students funds come and go quickly. So not everyone is always money ready to constantly get their hair done, and I had to adjust to that. But when opportunities came, believe I took advantage. For example, for our homecoming I was able to rake in 40+ clients because I made a sale. Like who doesn’t love a sale? And yes, I shorted myself. But I was thinking about the future…. I had the mindset of “if I do their hair really good now, and they like it…they are almost guaranteed to come back” now I had a reoccurring client. And I was right!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in cosmetology. Mainly surrounding the art of hair. I like to look at it as making women feel beautiful and boosting their confidence. It’s my favorite thing about what I do. Like yeaaa, the money is cool, but having the satisfaction to look at the master piece you created on someone’s head and Seeing the look they present once THEY see the finished product is EVERYTHING! I love to see my clients’ confidence boosted and their faces lit up after glamming them up. That’s what sets me different from other people in my field. My client is my number one priority, because in the end my goal is to have them walking out my door on cloud 9, feeling like the late beautiful woman in the world. Many don’t realize how much, confidence and how a person feels play a role in their faulty attitude and behavior.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Honestly, I’m still getting used to the city, as I just moved there. But one of my favorite things is how hospitable the people are. Maybe it’s a down south thing, but I meet literally the most genuine people and have them in my chair. And their positive energy does nothing but make me want to go harder.
