Meet Nick Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Lewis.

Hi Nick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The SCU Heat started as a tournament team. We would assemble the team from the best players in the southeast area and take on the different cash tournaments in the region. As the team continued to grow in both size and quality, I decided to join the highest level we could play in, to keep our players fit and competing at a high level year round.

Today, we have established ourselves as a dominant team in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL). The SCU Heat has created a “Player First” mentality and continues to use this to attract the best players from all over the world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There were several challenges along the way, but with hard work and help from the right people, we were able to get what we needed to establish success early. We formed an early partnership with South Carolina United FC. They opened their doors allowing us to use their practice facility, weight room, training staff, and stadium, which we call home.

Housing and accommodations for our incoming players were a major hurdle for us as we grew our program, but with the support from many local businesses, we have been able to provide what we needed to attract top talent.

A quality coaching staff is also hard to find. Someone who is willing to give up their free time to give the players the proper attention and training they need is very important in being successful. Coach Asher Quave-Robinson dedicates hundreds of hours each season to The Heat. This is a quality that is not only hard to find, but is irreplaceable.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work as the Production Manager for Sorinex Exercise Equipment, we build the best strength equipment on the planet. Providing colleges, high schools, pro teams, the military, and individuals with customized equipment to fit their needs.

A part of my job is assembling a workforce of over 150 people. These individuals need to work together, take pride in their work, and stay motivated to build top-end equipment. We pride ourselves on creating a workplace environment where people want to work. Much like the soccer team, it’s crucial to surround the people that work for you with a setting that allows them to have a sense of security, gratitude, and a people-first mentality.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is a relative term and can be interpreted differently from person to person. My idea of success is accomplishing personal goals no matter how many times you fail doing so. One critical aspect of success that I take very personally is taking a group of people and helping them become successful in their own personal goals.
