Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Callozzo.
Hi Mary, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in the South, especially along the bible belt, allowed every possible opportunity to explore religion, spirituality, and divine gifts. I could “see” from the time I was little, knowing without a doubt the sorts of spirits that roamed my home, but this was something that was written off as nightmares or imagination until I also believed that to be the case. As I grew, I began to learn more about the physical side of illness and disease from a material level, emotional disturbances, mental imbalances, and addictions.
Working as a practical nurse in clinics and hospitals in North and South Carolina gave me the foundational knowledge of the body and mind’s internal workings and anatomy, but didn’t satisfy the calling of my heart. There was something much deeper at play beneath the surface, and divine guidance led me onto the path of holistic healing. Connecting with nature, breaking away from societal norms and expectations, and connecting to who I truly was beneath it all grew my gift of sight beyond something that could be ignored.
I began with Reiki, learning how to perceive energy with my physical eyes and how to shift and move it in order to bring balance and health to the physical and emotional body, before being pulled into spiritual healing through the learning, and eventually teaching, of Q’ero Shamanism on a deeply loving and even psychological level. After incorporating other modalities such as hypnotherapy, guided meditation, Accupressure, and crystal healing, my own physical lineage guided me gently down the path of Druidry and finding the beauty within the balance of life and what inherently lays within, our own personal connection and the authentic self.
Applying what I learned in a way that melded with my own style, gifts, and the Christian principle of love, I produced a type of healing technique that is stripped of any other culture or known modality aside from the oneness of spirit and the energy of all that is, but has influences across the world to encompass every person. Matter and life itself are made of the stuff, and having the ability to see it, witness it, track it, and move it is a huge blessing and responsibility.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge on the road to becoming a healer is learning to heal. We aren’t called into healing by having easy lives without pain. We wouldn’t be able to relate to other people’s pain or know what to do about it from a deeply personal level. We can only help others heal something that we ourselves have been through and have healed through, and along the way, we learn how to be compassionate and loving enough to hold space for others who just need someone to care for them for a moment. Sometimes the most loving thing a healer can do is to be honest with the client and push them into accountability and responsibility for their own healing. Either way, the road to becoming a healer is filled with brokenness, wounding, traumas, wholeness, transmutation, and beauty.
We’ve been impressed with The Rustic Raven Energy Medicine & Holistic Healing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At The Rustic Raven we hold space for many local healers to come to stretch their wings, perhaps for the first time, and bring warmth to our local community and the world. We have had card readers, astrologers, massage therapists, chiropractors, reiki therapists, and so many more come through at just the time that they’re needed.
This space is a home for those who need to feel peace and love as they unload their personal pain and come into a healthier alignment of the soul within themselves. We hold personal healing sessions as well as workshops and training courses.
The downstairs shops provide crystals, tinctures, essential oils, cleansing herbs, spiritual books, and locally made jewelry. We even have resident therapy cats to help lull you into a sense of safety and security as you sit in the library and soak up the oxygen from the plants and the healing rays of the sun.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I recommend many books to my students and clients, but the ones that helped me the most along my personal journey include: “You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay, “Shaman, Healer, Sage” by Alberto Villoldo, “Journey of Souls” by Michael Newton, “Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D., “The Shamanic Path to Quantum Consciousness: The Eight Circuits of Creative Power” by Laurent Huguelit, among many more.
These books are only a few of the core writings that opened and deepened my spiritual awareness in ways that could be applied to physical health, scientific conscious awareness, and emotional purging and stability alongside the training I was receiving from shamanic, druidic, religious, and scientific teachers. I am currently in the process of writing my own spiritually guided text that holds my personal cosmology on matters related to oneness, quantum healing, duality, and awareness.
