Today we’d like to introduce you to Leonard Smith.
Hi Leonard, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
In 1990, God allowed me to walk away from a 105-year sentence. Not knowing that God had a purpose for my life. I needed to know what is God’s purpose for my life. God sent me a message that I knew that it was time to move on and up.
So, I went to barber school and graduated with a Master Haircare Special. Later, I was blessed with the opportunity to work in a salon for 3 months, and later I received my own shop. My great-grandfather, JP Smith started cutting hair with his cousin in 1920.
Later in 1990, my great-uncle, Fred Smith sign for me to achieve my 1-year apprenticeship under his license, and then, I received my license as a shop owner. Later after 2 years, I went back to receive the Certificate of a Master Instructor. Since that time, I have been training students to become barbers, instructors, and shop owners. I have served this area for 30 years. Many shops and salons we’re established through Jirah Barber & Style Shop. Jirah is defined as “God will provide.”
Finding God in my life helps me, so I can help others as I walk in God’s purpose for my life. I’m so proud to serve people in need.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been steady and not so smooth but growing as a small business and learning the pros and cons of this industry has been a process. Stay focused learn from your mistakes use wisdom it will help the travels on your path. Trust in God he is the Alexa to life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I put what I know that has always worked for me treat people with love honor and respect. It sometimes will bring out the best in people to shine outwards. Loving all people is a great expression of God’s love to us all.

It has grown so much since 1990. The least I like is it’s growing so fast.
