Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Malloy.
Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Lauren a faith-filled, fully caffeinated entrepreneur, influencer, and social media manager. I hold a Bachelors of Social Work from Delaware State University and a Masters of Communications in Public Relations from The Newhouse School at Syracuse University. I started my branding and public relations business hoping to inspire, encourage and assist women on their journey to starting small businesses, conquering life, and finding the will to bloom through it all!
As a mom of two and a dutiful wife, I struggled to find my voice. Distracted by the hectic day-to-day schedule of life, demands of career and the inner voice that is not always kind. I slowly started to share my self-discovery and faith journey via my personal social media page. This practice of publicly sharing, talking with, and encouraging my followers gave me the courage to pursue entrepreneurship and Blooms Public Relations was formed in 2017. My passion to help women “Bloom and Flourish” turned into Blooms Inspired Society – The Go-To Source for Motherhood in Lifestyle, Business, and Faith. An Instagram page dedicated to Moms and all the many titles we wear.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road had, and still does hold; many bumps and hurdles. The job of being a mom never ends, it is often difficult to find mental clarity and physical time to work. My husband’s job in sports has given us the opportunity to move multiple times in the past few years. As exciting as change can be I found myself overwhelmed by the transitions and having to find new networks and connections that are beneficial and needed in my career and for my social life.
The beauty of entrepreneurship is that I can work from anywhere, but it is hard to manage so many moving parts, literally and figuratively. During the height of the pandemic, I freelanced for a local parenting magazine, did homeschool, grew my PR business, added social media influencing to my plate, and moved to two different states in two years!
Although the journey is hard, the reward is great! I am so proud of myself, my family, and my brands!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently the Social Media Coordinator for our local Library system. I am responsible for content curation and information sharing for 13 locations on four social media platforms. I love this job because it allows me to blend my love for social media and my passion for people. I get to share all the exciting things happening in our community, at the library and so many of the talents of our librarians, local artists and entrepreneurs within Columbia, SC.
During my journey to entrepreneurship and making a name for myself as an influencer and social media maven, I had to create jobs and make opportunities, I landed this job after realizing that the combined experiences that sometimes felt like weren’t amounting to “enough” was all I needed to find walk in my purpose. My current job is a daily reminder that all the experiences I had to fight for, all the chances I was scared to take, all the times I talked myself out of something due to fear, and all the times I heard the word NO, has paved the way for me to be able to do what I love for an amazing organization on top of working on my brands.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
As a “Soda City” newbie, I can honestly say that I am still getting to know the place. Columbia, SC has many restaurants, family fun activities, and its proximity to other big cities is great!
