Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Bissell and Chase Martin.
Hi, Kylie and Chase. Can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
CHASE: I was in the entertainment industry for most of my adult life. I was a recording artist in Nashville, and to say that I lived extremely stressed would be quite an understatement. Physical fitness fell into my lap and completely changed my life. It brought me so much peace and something I looked forward to doing every day for my mental and physical health, especially going to spin classes. It wasn’t too long before I was structuring my entire days no longer around music but around cycling classes. Before I knew it, I was looking up how much it would cost to purchase spin bikes, lease a physical space, and do everything that went along with opening my studio. Then, one night at around 3 am, “Ride & Roll Cycling” popped into my mind, and Ride & Roll Cycling Studio was born.
KYLIE: Hi! I am an Arizona native but have lived all over. I got my bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I stayed on the Island of Oahu for 3 years to pursue my career in Marine Mammal Training, working with Dolphins, Penguins, and Sea Lions. I met my Husband there, who currently serves in the Navy. Flash forward to when he got orders to Charleston, South Carolina, and I had to explore what other careers served me. Nutrition and fitness have always been a massive part of my life. Chase reached out to me on Instagram, and when I met her in person, I knew she was creating something special that I wanted to be a part of. I’ve experienced a lot of self-growth and development, and your career does not define who you are, so having multiple careers is okay.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is opening your own business ever a smooth road? Lol! There are so many valleys to fall into and so many mountains to climb. The highs have been high, but the lows have been low, too. Getting people to know you’re in such a busy world is complex. It’s stressful to settle into a new sense of normalcy that comes with owning a business: being “on” 24/7, having to put your whole self into it, learning how to navigate “leading” your employees, putting your professional life before your personal life a lot more often in the beginning. Of course, none of this is exclusive to us; every new business owner struggles with this. It’s a learning curve, and we take it day by day.
I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ride & Roll Cycling Studio?
We are an indoor cycling studio specializing in fun, innovative, high-intensity workouts that make you look forward to coming to exercise: it’s not “Oh no, I have to go move my body today”; it’s “Ooh, I get to move my body today.” It sounds cheesy, but it’s true. We make it an enjoyable experience for everyone. We do it every day and want to have a good time doing it, too! There are many spin studios in our area that all bring something special and unique to the table. We strive for creativity and community. We want to go the extra mile for our people. How can we be 1% better for ourselves and our riders? When our riders walk through the front door, we want them to know this is their second home and everyone is welcome. They show up for us; we show up for them. We’re more than just a spin studio. We pride ourselves on bringing the fitness community together and partnering up with at least 2 different local fitness businesses a month to bring more opportunities to try something new. Because sometimes change is what enables you to grow. Sometimes, you have to get comfortable with being a little uncomfortable.
What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think physical fitness is something that is only going to continue to thrive more and more. People are starting to figure out how great it can be for you physically and mentally. It’s not just for the body; it’s also for the mind and soul. Join the Ride & Roll Revolution now! It’s only up from here!
