Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Haneline.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I’ve always wanted to work for myself. I didn’t always know how to get there, but I was determined. I started an online clothing boutique back in 2015, which failed because I didn’t push the business hard enough and, to be quite frank, had no clue what I was doing. I’ve always had side hustles to supplement my regular income, which is how I got to where I am today. I’ve done everything from cleaning jobs, dog walking, babysitting, and furniture flipping. I have a few stories because I have several ways to make money. You know what they say, don’t put all your eggs in one basket, right? I think it’s very important to have multiple streams of income!
My TikTok story: In March 2020, my sister called me to tell me about TikTok and how I should be on it because I love to dance, and at the time, TikTok was more dance-heavy than it is today. I was working a full-time job and decided to join TikTok for fun. My videos with my dad started going viral, and I quickly gained 10,000 by August. 1 month later, I was at 100,000 followers! 2 months later. I was at 200,000! My rise in followers was slower after that, but I am now at 505,000 followers on TikTok. There are several ways I make money on TikTok.
Brand collaborations: Brands send me the product they want to promote, and I make a video on my channel with the product (where I make the most money).
TikTok Creator Fund: TikTok pays me to make videos and is based on the performance of my videos
Timeline:

November 2020 – 200,000
August 2021 – 300,000
January 2022 – 400,000
November 2022 – 500,000
Today – 505,000
My real estate story:
In 2014 I purchased my first home and knew I would rent out that property and start real estate investing one day—back story. I dated a guy in 2012 who had 5 rental properties, and I knew one day I wanted to have an extra income stream too. I began listening to every Real Estate Investing podcast and reading all the real estate investing books. I purchased a 2nd home in 2019, moved into that one, and rented out the first one. Then I took a HELOC out on the 1st house to buy a 3rd investment property. In the middle of all of this, I found out I was moving to another state because of a job offer, so I bought a 4th house that I moved into. In 2019 I purchased 3 homes in 4 months. At this point, I had 1 primary house that I lived in and 3 rental properties. In 2020 I decided I wanted to sell that first house to pay off my car and HELOC to lower my expenses. I currently have the house that I live in and 2 rental properties. I love learning about real estate and plan to continue to invest in real estate to build my portfolio.
My money coaching story:
I went to school for Finance because I’ve always loved numbers, and I knew it would help equip me for a great job out of college. After graduating college in 2007, I had around $37,000 in debt (student loans, credit card debt, and car). I was in and out of debt until 2014, when I paid off all student loans and credit cards. Money is a struggle for many people, and I am a natural encourager, so what better way to help people than with money? I started by having friends over and helping them with their budgets. In 2019 I started a job where they asked me to lead our employees through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University course and be available to help employees with budgeting, getting out of debt, etc. I received my Ramsey Solutions Master Financial Coach license to be educated to help people even more. I have led over 100 people through the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace courses. I started paid money coaching services in 2022 and truly loved helping people improve their finances. I also have a blog on my website where I share money tips and inspire others to be more financially free.
My streams of income:
– Brand Collaborations
– Social Media platform funds (TikTok creator fund, Instagram reels bonus program, Facebook bonus program, YouTube monetization)
– Affiliate Marketing (Amazon storefront, brands that pay me to commit to promoting, LikeToKnowIt)
– Etsy Shop
– Money Coaching
– Social Media Consulting/Coaching
– Real Estate Investing
– Social Media freelance work
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would love to say it’s been smooth sailing, but it has not. Entrepreneurship has its ups and downs, for sure. I recently told a friend this had been the most freeing yet frustrating thing I’ve ever experienced. Great things don’t come easy, and I’m not a quitter. My main struggle is consistency. My income is up and down, and that’s the hardest part. This is why most people quit and return to the 9-5 grind. And I get that because it is scary. But for me, now that I’ve tasted freedom, traveled while I work (fun fact, I went to Hawaii for one month while I worked), and don’t have to sit in meetings all day long. I will do everything I can to work my butt off to continue this journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Content Creation for brands: I specialize in beauty, lifestyle, travel, fashion, and wellness. I create fun and engaging ads for brands on my channel to increase brand awareness and sales.
Money Coaching:
I help others get out of debt, create a sustainable budget, and coach them on improving their finances. This is one of my favorite things; I thrive off seeing people change and making changes to impact their future positively. I once was $37K in debt and worked my way out of it, so I believe I am different from some money coaches because I’ve been there and did what I coach.
Social Media Consulting/Coaching:
I teach others how to utilize social media to grow their business. I have grown successfully and organically on most major platforms, so bringing in that personal knowledge helps my clients have confidence that they are in good hands.
My services include but are not limited to the following:
– Training clients on the ins and outs of all social media platforms
– Training clients on Canva
– Providing content ideas
– Training clients on how to make Facebook ads
– Providing all the tips and tricks of social media and tools and sites to maximize their time and effort.
Social Media Freelance:
This line of work for me varies a lot. Mainly I help other creators repurpose their content on other platforms. I’ve created content ideas for clients, provided SEO help, created Canva designs, created YouTube thumbnails, edited YouTube, and more! I have 3 years of experience with social media content, so my clients can trust that I will bring the desired results.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Very very independent. I remember pretending I owned my own business. My dad had an old office upstairs that he let me take over. I would play up there and pretend I owned a carpet business. I am trying to understand why I chose carpet, but I had customer files in the drawers, invoices, cash, checks, and the whole shebang. I will never forget that because they say you usually become what you played when you were little. I don’t know how much truth there is, but it was for me. I always loved math, playing with fake money, putting my dolls in a circle, and teaching them.
