Hi Joseph, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Back in 2011, my brother Tim Thompson and I decided to go into the haunted attraction business. We created Madworld from the ground up by investing some of both of our savings. Eleven years later, we are widely known and are one of America’s Top Haunts!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We never dreamed what Madworld would become, but we also had NO IDEA of the struggles and hardships we would go through. We have had everything happen to us, from theft many times, vandalism, and even our second weekend ever in our first year. We had our concession stand burned to the ground by teenagers that we had to throw out the night before.
We also never imagined the amount of money it takes to run a business like this and do it right.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Madworld Haunted Attraction?
Our business is a haunted attraction. It is entertainment. We sell an experience that is only open seasonally. We build elaborate sets and thematic rooms/scenes where live actors and other props/animatronics pop out and scare guests. We also have 18 holes, mini golf, carnival games, and escape rooms what sets us apart from how interactive we are and how we are always at the forefront of the industry.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
Yes, when we started Madworld, we took a risk by investing our own money into something that we weren’t sure would pay off. Each year since we take risks deciding what to invest in and build new for our customers. We also take many marketing risks, trying to get our name more known and brand put out.
