Today we’d like to introduce you to Jermel President.
Hi Jermel, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in 7th grade when I was introduced to Dallas Wilson and the Midnight Basketball program. This program took athletes all over the country to compete and taught how important education is to our well-being. After college, I wanted to create the same atmosphere for potential student-athletes, so I created the DAE Foundation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Everything in life has its ups and downs, but I can say for the most part it was easier than I anticipated because of my passion to be a success. When you move with blinders on you don’t get distracted and discouraged from outside negative influences.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I founded the DAE (Delores and Estelle) Foundation in 1999. As a former student-athlete in the Lowcountry, I understood the need for skill development programs in the community. Determined to educate and inform young basketball players on the opportunities and resources available to them, the DAE Foundation was born.
DAE’s mission is to educate and train student-athletes to become skilled, effective, and responsible citizens of their communities. DAE addresses the needs of student-athletes in a holistic manner, combining innovative basketball skills training with an emphasis on moral character, academic progress, and overall physical and mental health.
Through the podcast 3RIPLE 3HREAT, I interview former collegiate players, professional athletes, collegiate coaches, sports agents, and more. Season 02 of the podcast focuses on psychological engagement and mental health of student-athletes.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The most important thing about being in business is developing, nurturing, and keeping healthy relationships. Also, just as important as relationships, you have to have awesome communication skills. These skills will determine how well your product or service does.
