Meet Jeff + Goda of Travelers Rest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff + Goda. They shared their story with us below:

Jeff + Goda

JEFF + GODA are husband/wife collaborative artists, with Jeff from Greenville, SC, and Goda from Vilnius, Lithuania. Over their careers, both artists have produced works in various artistic mediums and scope, including theater design & staging, site-specific installations, abstract painting & drawing, public happenings & place-making, puppetry of the absurd, and documentaries, among others. Between the two of them, JEFF + GODA have had numerous noteworthy achievements & experiences. One in particular is the film To My Great Chagrin, which was selected by the Museum of Modern Art in NYC for the Opening & Closing night of their Fortnight Film Series.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
JEFF + GODA have extensive experience in various mediums, including film, theater, puppetry, improvisation, public installations, corporate events, soundtrack design, community place-making, and abstract & conceptual art. One of the challenges with this kind of diversity is conveying the body of work and how those experiences and refined skills can be useful in numerous, and sometimes unlikely, ways, Whether for a commercial project, a personal commissioned work, or a large-scale civic objective. JEFF + GODA’s work can be considered non-conventional. However, it is always accessible and inviting. Still, reaching an audience or clientele that values and appreciates that can be challenging. However, challenges are what spark and fuel creativity.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Please share something that might surprise us.
Goda is from Lithuania and has over 18 years of experience as Director of Development for that country’s leading recording studio. During that time, among her numerous responsibilities, she supervised the casting, translation, and sound engineering for countless U.S. motion pictures, such as Rango, Hotel Transylvania, Tin-Tin, Shrek, Muppets, and more. For eight years, Jeff performed as a national touring stand-up comedian. Later, turning his focus to conceptual art, he produced several innovative public works including Parking Art Theater (a drive-thru art gallery on the top 3 floors of a parking building), Forest for the Tree (an outdoor environmental operetta staged at an abandoned warehouse), and A Concern of Some Kind (a half-hour weekly puppetry-of-the-absurd sit com performed & broadcast live).
