Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Gilliam.
Heather, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story begins in a small town in South Carolina. I was raised in a single-parent home. Through the difficulties of poverty and limited resources God used me a young minority female to make a difference in my community. With immense ambition, persistence, firm faith, and unwavering resilience I prevailed.
As I seek God I recognize his chronological order, his divine nature and his humor in life. The guided path that I continued to travel allowed me to start two other businesses which did not prosper, this is the humor in life. Some of life’s order comes with disappointment, but the path is still guided by God. My third business venture led me to harmony, wisdom, and understanding which spiritually represents the number three. With my trust in God, supportive family and friends, a great mentor and business partner along with my zealous drive and fervent dedication, these beautiful elements motivated me to succeed.
Growing up, I loved playing “nurse” with my cousins and knew then that I wanted a career in the healthcare field. My late 108-year-old great-grandmother Aran had to be hospitalized due to illness. It was during her many visits; I first experienced the healthcare system. Through the interactions with my family and the healthcare team, I recognized how broken and inadequate the healthcare system can be for minorities. It was those opportunities I witnessed that cultivated my pursuit to become a nurse. In my heart, I believed that I would make a positive impact on the way healthcare was delivered.
Becoming a registered nurse is without a doubt one of the accomplishments of which I am the proudest. As a nurse, I’ve had the opportunity to work in various healthcare settings including medical-surgical, substance abuse, and long-term care nursing, serving the community. However, helping healthcare professionals navigate the healthcare industry is where I’ve found my true calling. Thus, I entered a partnership and built an amazing team whom I am forever grateful for and launched a staffing agency that caters specifically to healthcare professionals.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, I would say it has not been easy, as we have encountered numerous roadblocks along the way. Despite maintaining momentum through social media platforms and creating trust with clients and candidates, we encountered difficulties acquiring local contracts with hospitals, urgent care centers, retirement communities, and assisted living facilities in the upstate area. Recently, we entered our second local contract in Greenville, South Carolina, and we are eager to expand our services by partnering with other local businesses.

Stat Staffing and Consulting Services is a licensed, multifaceted staffing agency that serves Alabama, Maryland, South Carolina, and Texas. In addition to healthcare staffing, our organization provides CNA Training, Healthcare and Business Consulting and our sister company Stat Home Care facilitates in-home care for the geriatric population.
We take pride in placing our finest clients with top candidates who are highly experienced and committed to providing safe, effective, and high-quality care.
Our continued drive to provide excellence in practice, keeps us on the cutting edge of healthcare. It is my hope that we will be able to contribute to a shift in the current climate of the healthcare industry.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
It is unfortunate that we will experience more challenges than changes in healthcare over the next few years. As we continue to experience a healthcare staffing crisis throughout the global nation, we believe our company is at a greater peak for success. Being a part of our healthcare staffing family allows healthcare professionals significant wage reimbursement, the ability to cultivate their lifestyle around scheduling and transition into better opportunities. We are here to help alleviate the pressures of healthcare shortages across the region.
