Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Danielle O’Neal.
Hi Dr. O’Neal, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Skincare by DOSE started out as a dream product idea that became a hobby that later grew into a business. I was on the search for a current product on the market that could meet my needs but it was to no avail. I was inspired by a friend to try to create the product myself. There I began doing the research and creating numerous formulations until the Original Healing Gel was created. During that time, I discovered my passion for cosmetic science and began making products for family and friends, which soon led to me developing a business. Currently, Skincare by DOSE is an online business, but I love to participate in pop-up shops within the community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been easy. There were quite a few bumps along the way including funding, product resourcing, and of course, time management. My biggest struggle was believing in myself and believing that I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to. Once I realized my abilities and became more self-confident, I was able to share my products and business with others, allowing them to enjoy the DOSE experience as much as I do.
As you know, we’re big fans of Skincare by DOSE. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Skincare by DOSE is a black woman-owned skincare line that is dedicated to providing the proper essentials for black women and men to achieve healthy, glowing skin. We specialize in products that provide the skin with long-lasting moisture, and when used daily, allow the user to not only experience healthy glowing skin, but a confidence boost as well.
What sets Skincare by DOSE apart from other skincare lines is that I am a pharmacist and I create all formulas from scratch. Also, I am pursuing my Master’s in Cosmetic Science to create even more innovative products.
As a brand, I am most proud of being able to service and represent the black community. I am a black woman who knows the struggles that black people face in a skincare world that doesn’t cater to our needs. With this heritage, an innate desire for knowledge, and a willingness to serve, I am honored to create skincare products for black women and men.
Overall, I want Skincare by DOSE to be known for effective skincare products that produce healthy, glowing skin and a major confidence boost, all while honoring the black heritage and experience.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The best advice I can give is to go out into the community, participate in various events, and meet new people. Networking is all about getting your name and your business out there. You never know the connections you’ll make and how they can grow your business.
