It All Started with One Simple Truth: I Was Meant to Care

For years, Denise walked the halls of the hospital, quietly performing one of the most essential tasks in patient care—phlebotomy. She had mastered her craft, greeted patients with warmth, and stood as a constant in the lives of those passing through difficult moments. But while drawing blood and supporting clinical teams, a deeper calling began to echo within her.

“I loved what I did,” Denise says, “but I knew I had more to give. There was a level of personal, heart-centered care I wanted to provide—not just in quick moments between machines and monitors—but in people’s homes, where healing begins in comfort and dignity.”

That calling couldn’t be ignored. With courage, faith, and a vision grounded in compassion, Denise stepped away from the security of her hospital role and took a leap of purpose. She didn’t just want to work in health care—she wanted to own her mission and deliver care the way she knew it should be given with hope, with honor, and with hands that don’t just help, but truly heal.

The Birth of Hands of Hope

In 2016, Hands of Hope Health Care Services was born in Greenville, South Carolina. What began as a one-woman operation quickly became a trusted name across the Upstate. Denise built her company on three unshakable pillars: Excellence, Empathy, and Ethics.

Today, after 11 years of unwavering service, Hands of Hope continues to provide exceptional in-home support for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and families navigating life’s most vulnerable transitions. Our caregivers are not just trained professionals—they are kind, capable extensions of the families we serve.

Our name is no accident. We are truly the Hands of Hope for every person we touch. We believe that care should never feel clinical—it should feel like comfort, like trust, like family. Whether we’re helping a client dress in the morning, reminding them to take medications, or simply sitting beside them to listen—we do it all with dignity and devotion.

We do not see our clients as case numbers. We see mothers, fathers, veterans, survivors, and souls who deserve care that respects who they are and honors who they’ve been.

Looking Ahead

What started with one caregiver’s dream has grown into a thriving, compliant, and compassionate care network—and we’re just getting started.

Because at Hands of Hope, this is more than a business—it’s a legacy of love, and a mission of healing, one home at a time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Obstacles & Challenges: Turning Trials into Triumph Building Hands of Hope Health Care Services from the ground up has not been without challenges—but every obstacle only strengthened our commitment to serve.

In the early days, transitioning from a hospital career to entrepreneurship was both thrilling and uncertain. Denise faced the uphill climb of navigating licenses, hiring trustworthy staff, securing funding, and building a brand in a competitive industry—all while maintaining the uncompromising quality of care she envisioned.

Operating as a minority woman-owned business, Denise encountered barriers that required persistence and grit: limited access to traditional capital, navigating complex regulatory pathways, and proving ourselves in markets that often overlook small providers. But giving up was never an option.

Instead, we leaned into our mission. Denise leveraged every ounce of her experience, faith, and passion to ensure compliance, hire certified caregivers, and invest in systems that would allow the business to scale without sacrificing care. We learned to adapt quickly, stay ahead of regulations, and respond to client needs with flexibility and compassion—even through staffing shortages, policy shifts, and unforeseen health crises.

Today, 11 years strong, Hands of Hope stands as proof that resilience, heart, and hard work can transform dreams into enduring service. Every challenge became an opportunity to sharpen our operations, strengthen our team, and deepen our impact.

Because when the foundation is hope, even the hardest days are steppingstones.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hands of Hope Health Care Services LLC?

offering care in a more personal, heartfelt way—in the environments where people felt
safest: their homes.
With courage and a crystal-clear vision, Denise took a leap of faith. She left her secure
hospital career and launched Hands of Hope Health Care Services in
2014—committed to bringing dignity, comfort, and compassion into the lives of those
who need it most.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
“The Great Vaseline Hair Disaster of 1982” When I was about 7 years old, I was absolutely convinced I was a hair stylist. Not a pretend one. A real one. Like “book me for your next family reunion” kind of real. One Saturday morning, with no supervision and way too much confidence, I decided it was time to “upgrade” my baby cousin’s hair routine.

Now, most kids use gel. Or water. Not me.

I used Vaseline.

All of it.

I scooped out the whole jar like I was marinating a turkey and slicked it all over her hair. Edges? Laid. Ponytail? Stuck in time. Roots? Shining brighter than a diamond in direct sunlight. I even proudly added a side part like I was doing a BET hair commercial.

When my mom walked in and saw her baby niece glistening like a rotisserie chicken, I was so proud I said, “She ready for church!” Let’s just say… nobody was ready for that mess.

It took three adults, a bottle of Dawn dish soap, and two Hail Mary’s to get her hair clean again.

Moral of the story?
Even back then, I believed in giving people confidence and care—even if I had to learn the hard way that not every slick style should be sponsored by petroleum jelly.
