Today we’d like to introduce you to Deldena Graham.
Hi Deldena, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in Murrells Inlet, I recognized the limited resources my childhood neighborhood had access to. After leaving the state, I always knew I wanted to give back. I returned to South Carolina in 2017 and opened an Early Childcare facility.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a minority-owned business, financing has always been a significant hurdle. Transitioning from the corporate world to entrepreneurship is challenging because banks require a track record, so we have to be very creative to secure start-up funding.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We provide childcare services for families in the neighboring communities, caring for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. I am proud to serve the neighborhood where I grew up.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Start slowly and cultivate a network of supportive individuals or partnerships. Sharing heavy burdens makes them much easier to bear, as no one can navigate every challenge alone.
