Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Ramsey. Them and their team share their story with us below:
When Dan, a retired Marine, and Nicole, an Occupational Therapist, first met they saw a need to bridge the gap between strength and conditioning, recovery, and rehab practices. With so many athletes, especially tactical athletes, experiencing physical injury and systemic burnout from training and daily life, there is evidence to suggest that training programs should regularly include assessment and recovery protocols to ensure optimal functioning of each individual athlete.
Flash forward 5 years, Elite Performance Concepts, LLC was established. EPC is a Human Performance Lab and Clinical Exercise Center equipped with the most up-to-date and evidence-based assessment, recovery, and training modalities. Our equipment and services include: a BTS Bioengineering Motion Analysis Lab, manual and myofascial therapies, state-of-the-art exercise equipment, Far-infrared Sauna, mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, and Normatec Compression Therapy. The combination of these services allows us to create the most individualized and efficient training and recovery programs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road for us.
Historically, physical training programs have not valued regularly incorporating protocols that address systemic recovery as an essential aspect for athlete optimization. The idea that rest and recovery is essential to gaining strength and skill is newer ideology. The recovery techniques that we use at EPC address the function of the nervous system (specifically activating parasympathetic function), allowing us to improve the athlete’s ability to handle stress and integrate it for higher performance outcomes.
Convincing people that recovery is just as important as training has been difficult. We spent many years researching and talking to athletes, coaches, and therapists in many industries. Many saw the value in what we wanted to do, and many also did not understand the paradigm shift we were proposing. In 2021 we decided to just go for it and take the first step.
In September of 2021 EPC officially opened its doors to bring these services to the Lowcountry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Elite Performance Concepts?
