Meet Charlotte Roberts Baroody of Georgetown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Roberts Baroody.

Charlotte Roberts Baroody

Hi Charlotte, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City in 2000, I quickly began working for ready-to-wear designer Cynthia Rowley, ending my work with her as Director of Retail in 2002. Upon returning to North Carolina, I took over the position as owner of The Scoop Ice Cream Shop and Toy Store. One year later, I also opened the gift shop Charlotte Begonias, which ran its success until 2010. Returning to University in 2009, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language/Literature cum laude in 2011 from Coastal Carolina University. Grand Strand Magazine hired me as their Fashion Director, allowing me to create three personal columns concentrating on fashion trends, interior design, and fashion documentaries of locals of advanced ages. While with Grand Strand Magazine, I styled and edited six of the most fashionable issues. Three children later, I worked as a Social Media Director, Retail Team Leader, and Buyer, formerly at Taz Boutique in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. I work at the ever-successful Monkee’s of Georgetown, SC.

Additionally, at Monkee’s, I have with a co-worker a live segment once a week, peaking thousands of viewers and advanced sales. Staying connected with my clients and customers has allowed me to create cutting-edge content for our area and accommodations that cater directly to my client’s interests and needs. I am the sales manager and event specialist for Tipsy Wine Spritzers out of Charleston, SC. The product is preservative-free, dye-free, chemical-free, gluten-free, low calorie, low carb, and sweetened with monk fruit juice, making it a beautifully well-crafted healthy choice of alcohol.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some have been easier than others. Post 9-11, I returned from my dream job, which was working for Cynthia Rowley as her Director of retail. I then opened my store, which was very exciting, and I enjoyed it immensely until I decided to attend Coastal Carolina University and study English, focusing on writing. After graduating with a husband and a newborn, I was on the cover of Grand Strand magazine. This cover led me to have 3 columns in the much-desired magazine representing Horry /Georgetown County. I also had two additional children, making full-time mumming and working difficult. I divorced, stopped working, and taught my children during Covid. Divorce is difficult, but seeing my children grow up in an environment where both parents are happy and can be friends is a real dream. It’s challenging, but the way we all ultimately want it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known for my style, dress, and writing. My new world in the wine industry perfectly combines all those worlds. I am known for being not like a soul in this small town. My fashion sense is eccentric and unique to my keen eye to make the ordinary extraordinary. My writing has a voice that’s raw and unhinged. People say it’s like they are sitting beside me when they are reading what I have put on paper. I am most proud of excelling yet still struggling to balance doing all these things and trying hard to be the best role model and mum to my children, who are and will always be my favorite job.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Please keep your creative ideas private from someone who will make them theirs. Don’t hesitate not to fit in. Always think outside of everyone’s box. Your originality will make you stand out. Show up and do your very best every day. Use your job to influence or make a difference in someone else’s life that brings them happiness and joy. Do not let the fear of the unknown scare you from trying something new. Not everyone will like you, and some will try to hurt you- typically because they are hurt or not proud of another’s success. Run away from these people quickly. Stay you. Show up. Keep doing you. And don’t let anyone’s darkness steal your rainbow.
