Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Major.
Hi Brenda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! My name is Brenda Major. I’m a wife and a serial entrepreneur. In 2019, I had a son that was born with a medical condition, so I was forced to leave my Corporate America job of 12 years. Having to do treatment on him every 3 hours (still the same today) it became overwhelming so I would find small things to do around the house to keep me occupied. I’m not used to sitting around the house, so this was all new to me. Scrolling on social media, I found this Cricut machine for sale. It was so cheap I told my friends and they all purchased one as well. However, I believe I’m the one that uses mine the most and has created so many things with my machine. What got the ball rolling was the death of my classmate. I offered to make shirts for his immediate family. Once the other family members saw the shirts, they all wanted one as well. I ended up making shirts for the family and our classmates as well. After seeing the looks on their faces and receiving so many thanks, my heart was filled with joy. Two months later, July 2020, I decided to make it a business (a gift to myself on my birthday) and I have not looked back since. Today, Memorial items are still my top seller. From custom shirts, pillows, cups, banners, tumblers, and the list goes on. In the future, I would like to network with local funeral homes to give memorial blankets to grieving family.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not! However, I use it for growth. When it comes to the T-shirt industry, things are changing every day. Learning something new and having someone teach you or someone you can learn from can be a challenge without it feeling like competition. If it wasn’t for groups on Facebook, I would probably be still learning on YouTube instead of getting direct help and going in circles.
As you know, we’re big fans of Major Crafts & Designs. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Major Crafts & Designs is your one stop shop for all of your customized needs. Specifically targeting small business owners who need help with branding. Anything from custom apparel, custom crafts and custom marketing material. I always like to tell other business owners, that when you step out in public, someone should be able to look at you and see your brand somewhere on you. It can be your hat, shirt, jacket, shoes, backpack, suitcase, luggage cover, purse and the list go on. Just so you know, I do provide these products as well. I use this technique to draw in my customers. I live by “Rock Your Brand & Own It!” (My Slogan) What makes me proud of my business is being able to see people from different states purchase my products. Being that I run my business by myself, I don’t get to advertise as much as I should. So, this means that word of mouth goes a long way. I love when I meet new people and I love the feedback I receive after a customer has received my product. That part means the world to me because at the end of the day I want to know that I made you smile in some kind of way if not cry (in a good way…lol).
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love best about our city is the community support. I love meeting new people and being that I don’t advertise like I should, word of mouth goes a long way here and I love that.
