Meet Andre’ Griffin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre’ Griffin.

Hi Andre’, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was the age of 12 when my art career started. I was originally being mentored by the famous artist, Earnest Lee (The Chicken Man). After a while, he offered to sell my artwork at his Christmas event. Being so grateful, I took the offer and made a lot of money for the first time!

I finally decided then that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. The year 2021 was when I started to create my business and sell art for a living. I have been going to many venues to help spread my name in hopes of using the gift God has given me to share with all.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Most of the obstacles and challenges for me were organization – from set-ups to putting everything back in storage. Although this is usually a long and hard process, I have been able to develop better techniques, which are making it much easier and faster.

Also, the traits that it takes to be an entrepreneur from learning not only how to sell your work for what it’s worth, but also being able to negotiate continues to be challenging. Having to paint and bring pieces that are more appealing to the area or venue’s theme requires research and careful planning. This is a must if you want to sell pieces of your artwork.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My art is mainly based on the theme of self-love and Afrocentric art. I have always loved to focus on drawing people of my skin color and also to show my emotions in my artwork. This has helped me see that there are not many black businesses being advertised as they should be. I wanted to use what God has given me to help young black kids realize they can be on the big screens too.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice would be to spread your word and constantly talk to everyone in sight. You never know who might know someone that will benefit you later in life.
