Meet Ana Paula Souza of PetDog Grooming

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Paula Souza.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
One day I traveled to Brazil and I asked my friend to take my two dogs to the pet shop and then he took them to the place near us, I didn’t like what they did they did such a terrible job, when I came back I looked to another place and I realized that the next pet shop near me was like 20m away, so I was very dissatisfied about what I was doing and I love dogs, so then I had the idea why not to be a professional groomer and start something that I really like to do?!

I spent 6 months thinking about and searching for what I needed to be a groomer, for me was a little difficult because I didn’t have too much money to spend on classes and the classes is so expensive, I found a groomer to give me some classes at her house but this is about 3 hours away, I worked all the week and on Saturday I drove to there, most of the times I didn’t enjoy too much the classes because I was so tired of work, I spent 3 months doing this when I decided to leave.

I had the basic classes it was enough for me to groom the first dog; the first time was such a challenge for me, I did my best after this, and I got so many clients I started to do this in my house in the basement, my neighbors were so helpful, but after 8 months I got so many clients and I decided to open I store for me, I did the best decision of my life, I was starting my career opening a beautiful store.

A year later I traveled to Myrtle Beach to visit my friend and I saw so many opportunities here, after 3 months I moved to SC and I opened my second store I spend one month having the grand opening, this time things were faster and I felt safer whit more experience, I’m very proud of the journey that brought me to where I am today!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

I started the first business in March 2020 meant opening up at the beginning of the pandemic, but I did not let that hold back and stuck with the business through a tough 18 months. I was directly affected by the pandemic, like everyone. But I made myself understand it was only a difficult moment and now things are returning to normal.
