Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisa Connolly.
Hi Alisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My road to Louis Alexander started over 20 years ago when I was first introduced to property management, managing Class A trophy high-rise office buildings in Los Angeles, California. I was in awe of the talent of my first manager and quickly fell in love with the industry! I will never forget the amazing mentors I had along the way who taught me the various elements of asset management and life lessons in general. Interestingly enough, I was immersed in companies that employed and empowered strong women leaders and entrepreneurial philosophies that encouraged you as an individual to go as far as your ambition took you. It was this encouragement that led me to where I am today!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Taking a leap of faith and having the courage to break out of the corporate world was one of the greatest struggles I had to overcome. I had to learn to have faith in myself and overcome the tendency to allow my position to define who I was. Stepping away and pursuing my passion required me to have the courage and self-confidence to reinvent and redefine who I am as a person and follow my dream.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Louis Alexander?
After spending most of my career learning real estate on a corporate level, I was ready to be my own boss and use the passion that I have for business to open a new chapter. I wanted to be able to not just have a job but wake up every morning loving what I do. After careful planning and a few leaps of faith, my boyfriend and business partner, Greg Terranova and I decided to combine our talents and start our own Management and Real Estate Services business. When we opened our own business to start this journey here in Charleston, it was really important to us that we weren’t just another management company on the list but rather a company focused on giving back to our community and neighborhood. Our goal is to have a positive impact on the communities we serve and the lives we touch so that we can look at ourselves at the end of the workday knowing that our efforts go to more than just making a living. With this community spirit in mind, we are focused on bringing a personalized approach to property management and the community we live in. We really pride ourselves on being able to be flexible and providing truly tailored services to our clients from long-term to short-term and even as needed property management services. Being able to take our past experience and now apply it to our own business is something I am immensely proud of.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The sky’s the limit, and a lot of times, the biggest progress forward comes just after hurdles seem the most insurmountable and so it is super important to have the inner confidence and work ethic to push through those initial roadblocks. Beyond that, one of the most powerful things I learned through my career is that in many cases, even the most successful people are just winging it and using intuition to make their best guesses. You have to treat people with respect, but knowing that even the most polished businesspeople are just human beings at the end of the day can help with perspective when going down a new path.
