Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Duncan.
Hi Alexandra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Alexandra Duncan. I live in Charleston, SC, and am originally from Louisville, KY. I am a mother of two and a paralegal as well as a social media content creator. I’ve been sharing my family’s local adventures and vacations on social media since my children were small and in early 2021, I created my social media page, Things To Do in Charleston. I was often getting asked for recommendations on exciting things to do in my area, great places to eat, etc. I am passionate about supporting locally owned, small businesses as well as sharing new things going on in my town, so this hobby turned into a small business quickly for me. Since early 2021, Things To Do in Charleston has grown to over 15,000 followers reaching around 21,000 people in a week-long period on Instagram alone.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would describe the career path that led me to where I am today as a mostly smooth road. My current struggle is time. While there is so much that I am eager to share, I still have to balance my time between running Things To Do in Charleston and also being a freelance paralegal, a volunteer for Postpartum Support of Charleston, writer, wife, and full-time mom of two.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Great, I create content and introduce my followers to all things Charleston, SC, and surrounding areas on my social media page on both Instagram and Facebook. To me, Charleston is the absolute best town, and I am constantly finding hidden gems that I love to share with others. I’ve lived in the Charleston area since I graduated from college, and as a small child, my family visited several times every year.
My content creation/ social media blogging is currently on a part-time basis while I also work as a paralegal for a legal software company.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Absolutely, Covid-19 was an interesting time as it forced us to stay home for long periods. We are a very active and typically busy family. I like getting out of the house and enjoying the city. During Covid-19, we spent a lot of time outside in our neighborhood and backyard. It made us a closer family, although we did miss our normal routines.
